Croydon High Juniors GDST

As part of our Arts Week and our exploration of the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child, we built an installation inspired by the brilliant Chiharu Shiota. We wove a celebratory tangle of threads and suspended the students' responses to the week's theme within it.

Gardening club members have been savoring a bountiful harvest of potatoes, garlic, broad beans, peas (we ate all these) and kale.

We're so proud of our Year 6 contribution to Arts Week — they’ve been developing a protest project that highlights the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child. Such powerful messages.

✨ Junior School Arts Week Highlights ✨

Throughout the week, we celebrated creativity, imagination and expression while deepening our understanding of the Rights of the Child. Through art, literature, discussion and play, pupils explored how creativity can help us understand, celebrate and advocate for the rights that help every child thrive. The week provided opportunities for the girls to develop their artistic skills while reflecting on the importance of having their voices heard, expressing their identities and ensuring that all children are able to flourish.

We are so proud of our pupils for using their creativity to express themselves, stand up for what matters and celebrate the power of every child’s voice. 💫

Year 1 artists have been making Basquiat-inspired self-portraits to celebrate their right to identity and expression—such vibrant, joyful work!

Our Year 5 art scholarship group are producing impressive observational drawings and making excellent progress.

Friday morning bilateral drawing with some of our wonderful artists. Working both hemispheres of the brain to welcome creativity without fearing mistakes helps us relax, sharpen our focus, and build confidence in drawing. What a lovely way for us to start the day.

The junior school gardening club is buzzing with activity and teamwork. We’ve been busy planting peas, potting potatoes and watering.

Our Year 3 artists have been crafting dramatic charcoal responses to small-world still lifes, exploring chiaroscuro. They're bold and beautiful.
