Theme for the Month: Spring

We are excited to share that our theme for this month will be Spring.

Throughout the month the children will be exploring signs of spring, baby animals, growing and planting, weather changes and life cycles through a range of fun, hands-on activities.

We will be linking all activities to the EYFS areas of learning including communication and language, physical development, personal, social and emotional development, literacy, maths, understanding the world and expressive arts and design.

Week 1 – Signs of Spring

During the first week we will be learning about the changes we can see during spring.

The children will:

Go on spring walks around the garden

Look for flowers, leaves, bugs and birds

Explore spring sensory trays

Create spring pictures and flower paintings

Learn new words such as flower, leaf, grow and rain

Week 2 – Baby Animals

In week two we will be learning about baby animals and their families.

The children will:

Read stories about baby animals

Match baby animals to their parents

Join in with animal movement games

Explore farm role play areas

Learn animal names and sounds

Week 3 – Growing and Planting

During week three we will be learning about plants, flowers and how things grow.

The children will:

Plant seeds and flowers

Water and care for plants

Learn what plants need to grow

Count seeds and compare different plants

Explore gardening activities and nature art

Week 4 – Spring Weather and Life Cycles

In week four we will be learning about spring weather and the life cycles of animals.

The children will:

Explore sunshine, rain, wind and clouds

Create weather pictures and rainbow art

Learn about the life cycle of chicks and butterflies

Take part in weather themed games and activities

Talk about how animals grow and change

Special Experience – Chicks in Nursery

We are very excited to let you know that we will be ordering chicks for the children to observe within the setting.

The children will be able to watch the chicks hatch and learn all about the life cycle of a chick from egg to chick.

The chicks will stay with us for a total of 10 days before being safely returned.

This will be a lovely hands-on experience for the children and will help support their understanding of living things, growth and change.

We are also very excited to be hatching baby chicks within the setting. The children will be learning all about the life cycle of chickens, where they live, and the habitats they need to grow and thrive 🐣

☀️ Good Morning from Davidson Pre-School! ☀️

Our home corner is coming along so beautifully! 💛

Since opening this site back in October, our amazing team have worked incredibly hard to make sure the environment is warm, inviting and filled with exciting learning opportunities for the children. Every little detail has been thoughtfully planned to create a space where children can learn, play and most importantly, feel happy and safe.

Today our home corner has been transformed into a 🏥 hospital!

The children will be busy caring for patients, bandaging poorly arms, listening to heartbeats and role-playing as doctors, nurses and receptionists. Role play like this supports:
✨ Communication & language
✨ Personal, social & emotional development
✨ Understanding the world
✨ Imagination and confidence building

We love seeing their creativity shine and watching their little personalities come to life in these spaces.

We can’t wait to share more of what they get up to today! 💙

We’re Back for a Brand New Term! 🎉

After a lively and well-earned week off, we are so excited to welcome all of our children and families back to Davidson Pre-School** as we begin our new term!**

Last term our theme was Transport 🚗🚂✈️ and the children absolutely loved exploring how we travel and move around our world. This term, we’ll be extending that learning into “People Who Help Us.”

This will include learning about:
👩‍⚕️ Doctors and nurses
👮 Police officers
🚒 Firefighters
👩‍🏫 Teachers
🦷 Dentists
🛠️ Builders and other community helpers

Through role play, small world activities, stories, discussions and creative experiences, the children will develop:

✨ An understanding of the world around them
✨ Respect for different roles in our community
✨ Confidence in speaking and asking questions
✨ Awareness of safety and how to seek help
This topic is so important as it helps children feel secure, understand real-life situations, and build positive connections with the wider community.
