This year Explorers Forest School will be taking part in the National Education Nature Parks grant to improve the biodiversity, outdoor environment and climate ready elements of our school. Our nurture group completed a habitat audit this afternoon exploring what different spaces we do have on our site. This will help inform our improvement plan.

We also made the most of the recent rain by doing some bridge building over the puddles with different resources.

Our new canopy is up! Fully waterproof and hole-free unlike our old parachute (which will be repurposed elsewhere)… Year...

Our new canopy is up! Fully waterproof and hole-free unlike our old parachute (which will be repurposed elsewhere)… Year 3 gave lots of moral support whilst this was put up on Friday. Looking forward to testing it out on a rainy day 🌧️ 🔥

Thanks to a very generous donation to Forest School we have spent today setting up a new bird watching area at the edge of the woods. We bought a bird feeder and filled it with treats, and put up our new bird hide! Inside we have binoculars, bird journals & ID books. We used the .bird.id app to see which birds we have in the woods and can’t wait to see them up close.

Now we just have to practice being quiet in this area to stop scaring them off 😆

Year 3 have been taking part in an experiment over the past two weeks. They have been predicting what will happen when a paper cup full of water is placed in the fire. Some of the suggestions were really dramatic! What do you think will happen? Ask your children to tell you the outcome…

The mud has returned, much to the children’s approval! Puddle jumping, mud sliding and a fully stocked mud kitchen have dominated sessions this week.

We have also been kindly donated a new swing by one of our parents and will send some pictures once the wind settles down and it is in full use!

Year 4 were very fire focused this afternoon - as well as splitting logs they worked independently to revive the fire after it burnt down. With only a watchful eye from me, they worked out sucessful log placements, how to add kindling appropriately (and safely) and talked about the different elements of the fire triangle to bring the fire back. They were rewarded with some toasted crumpets!

Some of our September 2026 new starters joined us for a morning in the woods. To celebrate Sir David Attenboroughs birthday tomorrow we took part in some wildlife and environment challenges, such as a 5 minute litter pick, some bug hunting, habitat building, colour hunts and bird watching.

We are looking forward to welcoming you all in September!

After school clubbing today was all about the mud kitchen! Each child had their own designated station and they used the resources to grind, seive, mix and ‘bake’ some mud kitchen cookies!

Kicking off a new term in the sunshine ☀️ A huge thanks to .gray.artist who donated some binoculars as well as a whole host of other resources for us to use. Today we got out the bird books and had a look to see what we could see in the canopy.

We also tested out a stethoscope to listen to the trees! Noises from insects and the sugars going up and down the trees can be picked up using one so we took it in turns to find out what noises were going on inside the trees!

It might be nearly the end of term but we are looking ahead to after Easter thinking about what new opportunities we could provide in the woods.

Over the past year we have developed the mud kitchen to be bigger and better, installed a tree net ‘trampoline’ and are separating the field from Forest School with a new planting area which we will start growing things in after the holidays. We have also been able to spend more time taking part in tool work thanks to the PTA’s generous donation of out shave horse working bench.

One of the old trees is going to be repurposed with climbing wall grips to provide additional climbing opportunities and we are hoping to secure funding to replace our giant parachute shelter with an upgrade.
