We're so proud of the five Warwick students and alumni who will be representing their countries this summer in Paris!

Lubjana Piovesana πŸ‡¦πŸ‡Ή
Lubjana (sixth year, part-time BA Politics) is a former European Under 23 Champion and will be competing in Paris for Austria. She’s a sporting scholar who has won bronze at the World Junior Championships and came fifth at the Senior World Championships in the under 63kg category.

Joshua Bruyns πŸ‡ΏπŸ‡¦
Joshua (second year, BA Economics with Modern Foreign Languages) will be competing for South Africa in speed climbing. He started climbing when he was just 10 - and set both a personal best and an African record in 2023.

Noor Slaoui πŸ‡²πŸ‡¦
Noor (BA Politics and International Studies, 2017) is the only Arab athlete who has qualified in the eventing and is the first Moroccan rider to compete internationally in the sport. Last year, Noor travelled all over Europe picking up points and qualifications to get to Paris – prioritising events with showjumping on a surface.

Kare Adenegan πŸ‡¬πŸ‡§
Coventry-born Kare (BA History, 2022) is already a medal winning Paralympian, taking home two silver medals in wheelchair racing at the Tokyo 2020 Paralympic Games. She's paused her PGCE to focus on her training.

Tom Hall πŸ‡¬πŸ‡§
Londoner Tom (MChem Chemistry, 2013; PhD Chemistry, 2018) first took up archery in his second year at Warwick, finally earning his spot on the national team in 2015. Having taken an extension from his PhD studies, as well as recovering from a serious injury just before the Tokyo Olympics, Tom knows what it takes to secure a place in the Olympic squad.

So far, our end of term donation drive has collected *more than 4.7 tonnes* of food, kitchenware, small electricals and homeware!

We asked our students to share items that they couldn't take with them when they moved out.

Now, these items will go to new homes:
♻️ some will be offered to students at the Kitchen Kit Market during Welcome on a pay-as-you-feel basis
♻️ others will support local charities in Coventry, Warwickshire, and the Midlands
♻️ as a last resort, we'll look to recycle items and recover materials.

Our donation drives are a huge part of our commitment to sustainability. We want to create a circular economy campus - where items are reused, repaired, or recycled to extend their lifespan.

Thank you to everyone who contributed to the drive πŸ’œ

Over 700 school children and teachers from across Coventry came together at Warwick for the grand finale of our Flame of Friendship πŸ”₯

Whilst the Olympic torch travels the world, the Flame of Friendship travelled across 63 schools, starting at Coventry Cathedral in February, and finishing at the finale event on campus.

The custom-made torch was designed especially for this event as part of a competition for school children. The winning design - chosen from submissions by more than 2,000 children - from Finham Park School was then bought to life thanks to the team at WMG and T Level students from Rugby College.
