The children had an absolute blast expressing themselves and exploring their creativity through mark-making! ๐ŸŽจ๐Ÿ–๏ธ๐Ÿ˜„

At our nursery, we cherish these moments of artistic exploration, providing a nurturing environment where children can freely express themselves and celebrate the joy of creating. Mark-making becomes a pathway to discovery, a bridge between imagination and reality, and a reminder that every stroke holds the potential to inspire and delight. ๐ŸŒˆ๐ŸŽจ๐ŸŒŸ

Openly discussing emotions with children is crucial as it helps them develop a strong emotional foundation, fostering better relationships and mental well-being later in life. By engaging in conversations about their feelings and the reasons behind them, children begin to recognise and comprehend a variety of emotions.

Below are some tips on getting your little ones to talk about their emotions and how to make them feel more at ease:

๐Ÿฅฐ Encouraging curiosity about emotions instead of seeking to suppress them helps children understand that they can handle challenging feelings. Rather than rushing to cheer up or fix a child's problem, sitting alongside them and acknowledging their emotions teaches them that feelings are not overwhelming and that they can navigate them together.

๐Ÿฅฐ After your child has expressed their emotions, assist them in identifying and labelling the specific feeling they are experiencing. Are they feeling anger, worry, fear, frustration, or happiness? By doing this, you not only expand their vocabulary but also facilitate their ability to recognise and acknowledge the same emotion in future situations.

๐Ÿฅฐ It is crucial for your child to understand that it is perfectly normal to experience a range of emotions, even if some of them are unpleasant. Emotions like jealousy, envy, or selfishness can serve as opportunities for self-reflection and gaining insights into ourselves and others. It is important to create a lighthearted and comfortable atmosphere when discussing emotions, as this can prevent heightened emotional responses, particularly when a child feels sad or anxious.

This summer, encourage your little ones to explore the great outdoors and let their imaginations take root in gardening! ๐Ÿชด

With countless benefits, young minds and hearts can grow through observation, creativity, and connection with nature.

Here are ways to make gardening fun for children:

๐ŸŒฑ Involve them in the planning process: Let children help choose what plants to grow and where to plant them. This gives them a sense of ownership and responsibility and helps them feel more invested in the process.

๐ŸŒฑ Make it a sensory experience: Encourage children to touch, smell, and sometimes taste (if you're growing fruit or veg) the different plants in the garden. This helps them develop a greater appreciation for the natural world and its diversity.

๐ŸŒฑ Incorporate fun activities: Incorporate fun activities such as scavenger hunts, bug hunts, or garden-themed crafts to keep children engaged and interested.

๐ŸŒฑ Keep it simple: Keep the gardening process simple and age-appropriate, so children don't get overwhelmed or frustrated. Start with easy-to-grow plants and gradually add more complexity as they gain experience.

Who loves pizza? ๐Ÿ•

Here's a fun and delicious pizza recipe that parents can cook with their children! Here's a simple recipe:

Ingredients:
450g of pizza dough (store-bought or homemade)
1/2 cup of pizza sauce
2 cups of shredded mozzarella cheese
Toppings of your choice (e.g. sliced mushrooms, chopped onions, sliced bell peppers, pepperoni, cooked sausage, etc.)

Instructions:
Preheat the oven to 425ยฐF (220ยฐC).

On a lightly floured surface, roll out the pizza dough into a circle (or rectangle) shape, about 1/4 inch thick.

Transfer the pizza dough to a lightly greased baking sheet or pizza stone.

Spread the pizza sauce over the pizza dough, leaving a small border around the edge.

Sprinkle the shredded mozzarella cheese over the pizza sauce.
Add your desired toppings.

Bake the pizza in the preheated oven for 15-20 minutes, or until the crust is golden brown and the cheese is melted and bubbly.

Remove the pizza from the oven and let it cool for a few minutes before slicing and serving.

Cooking pizza with children is a great way to spend time together, and they will love being able to choose the toppings and help assemble the pizza. Enjoy! โค๏ธ

A child's growth benefits from sensory play since it enables them to explore and learn about their surroundings through their senses. The following are some of the main advantages of sensory play:

๐Ÿ‘‰ Develops cognitive skills: Sensory play helps children to develop cognitive skills such as problem-solving, decision-making, and critical thinking. They learn to make connections between different sensory experiences and develop their ability to reason and make sense of the world.

๐Ÿ‘‰ Enhances motor skills: Sensory play encourages children to engage in physical activities such as pouring, scooping, and manipulating objects. These activities help to develop fine motor skills, hand-eye coordination, and overall physical dexterity.

๐Ÿ‘‰Promotes language development: Sensory play provides children with opportunities to use and learn new words, as they describe the textures, smells, and colours of the materials they are exploring.

03/05/2023

Exploring textures sparks a wonderful and exciting opportunity for children to engage with their senses, particularly touch. Such engagement is essential in fostering sensory development and gives children a greater appreciation and understanding of their surroundings. ๐Ÿƒ

01/05/2023

Reading can help children to develop their imaginations and enhance their creativity. They can visualise the characters, the settings, and the events of the story in their minds.

๐Ÿ‘‰ Creativity and Imagination: Mud play encourages children to use their creativity and imagination to explore and create with mud. They can make mud pies, build structures, or create mud sculptures, which promotes their imaginative play skills and fosters their creativity.

๐Ÿ‘‰ Physical Development: Mud play involves physical activity, such as digging, scooping, pouring, and manipulating mud, which helps develop children's fine motor skills, hand-eye coordination, and strength. It also provides opportunities for gross motor skills development as they move and play in the mud, enhancing their physical development.

๐Ÿš“'It's the sound of the Police'๐Ÿš“

This morning, Blossoms Day Nursery have had two special visitors from West Midlands Police Service. The two officers explained their roles to the children and spoke about how they keep our community safe. The children asked lots of questions and they even got to explore the police car, sounding the alarm and flashing the big blue lights.๐Ÿ‘ฎโ€โ™€๏ธ

The children were super excited trying out some of the clothes that the officers wear and they even took part in some role play scenarios to ensure our nursery is kept safe.

This week as part of our curriculum, the preschool children have been learning about people who help us and having this special visit has definitely inspired some of our children to want to become Police officers when they grow up. โ›‘

We would like to say a huge thank you to West Midlands Police Service and to the two officers who came out to support our topic this week. The children have had an unforgettable experience.
