Openly discussing emotions with children is crucial as it helps them develop a strong emotional foundation, fostering better relationships and mental well-being later in life. By engaging in conversations about their feelings and the reasons behind them, children begin to recognise and comprehend a variety of emotions.
Below are some tips on getting your little ones to talk about their emotions and how to make them feel more at ease:
🥰 Encouraging curiosity about emotions instead of seeking to suppress them helps children understand that they can handle challenging feelings. Rather than rushing to cheer up or fix a child's problem, sitting alongside them and acknowledging their emotions teaches them that feelings are not overwhelming and that they can navigate them together.
🥰 After your child has expressed their emotions, assist them in identifying and labelling the specific feeling they are experiencing. Are they feeling anger, worry, fear, frustration, or happiness? By doing this, you not only expand their vocabulary but also facilitate their ability to recognise and acknowledge the same emotion in future situations.
🥰 It is crucial for your child to understand that it is perfectly normal to experience a range of emotions, even if some of them are unpleasant. Emotions like jealousy, envy, or selfishness can serve as opportunities for self-reflection and gaining insights into ourselves and others. It is important to create a lighthearted and comfortable atmosphere when discussing emotions, as this can prevent heightened emotional responses, particularly when a child feels sad or anxious.
Our outdoor area is equipped with a plethora of apparatus that provides children with a safe and stimulating environment to engage in playful activities and burn some energy. Engaging in arts and crafts activities with glue provides a multitude of benefits for children, fostering their growth in various areas while unleashing their creativity and imagination. 🎨✂️🌟
🖌️🏠 Dive into the world of rock water painting with your little one! 🌈🎨
Encouraging children to engage in mark-making and writing can sometimes be challenging. However, a fun solution is water painting on rocks, which can ignite their interest in drawing and painting. By using water as their medium, children become eager to participate and unleash their creativity. This activity can serve as a captivating gateway to inspire children's desire to draw, write and paint.
What you will need:
👉 large, dry rocks
👉 pot of water
Children's imaginations can go wild as they draw zig-zags, circles, straight lines and so much more! It's a simple and fun activity that anyone can try at home. ❤️

This summer, encourage your little ones to explore the great outdoors and let their imaginations take root in gardening! 🪴
With countless benefits, young minds and hearts can grow through observation, creativity, and connection with nature.
Here are ways to make gardening fun for children:
🌱 Involve them in the planning process: Let children help choose what plants to grow and where to plant them. This gives them a sense of ownership and responsibility and helps them feel more invested in the process.
🌱 Make it a sensory experience: Encourage children to touch, smell, and sometimes taste (if you're growing fruit or veg) the different plants in the garden. This helps them develop a greater appreciation for the natural world and its diversity.
🌱 Incorporate fun activities: Incorporate fun activities such as scavenger hunts, bug hunts, or garden-themed crafts to keep children engaged and interested.
🌱 Keep it simple: Keep the gardening process simple and age-appropriate, so children don't get overwhelmed or frustrated. Start with easy-to-grow plants and gradually add more complexity as they gain experience.
We wholeheartedly celebrate the exhilarating experience that outdoor play brings! 🤸 That is precisely why we place immense value on integrating outdoor play, engaging activities, and educational pursuits within our nursery curriculum. 🥰

All you need is the following:
1/2 cup Potato Starch
1/2 cup Flour
2 Tablespoons Coconut Oil
In a large bowl, mix together the flour, potato starch and coconut oil.
Use your hands to mix the ingredients together. The moon dough should be able to hold its shape when you mould it, but crumble apart easily when you break it.

Who loves pizza? 🍕
Here's a fun and delicious pizza recipe that parents can cook with their children! Here's a simple recipe:
450g of pizza dough (store-bought or homemade)
1/2 cup of pizza sauce
2 cups of shredded mozzarella cheese
Toppings of your choice (e.g. sliced mushrooms, chopped onions, sliced bell peppers, pepperoni, cooked sausage, etc.)
Preheat the oven to 425°F (220°C).
On a lightly floured surface, roll out the pizza dough into a circle (or rectangle) shape, about 1/4 inch thick.
Transfer the pizza dough to a lightly greased baking sheet or pizza stone.
Spread the pizza sauce over the pizza dough, leaving a small border around the edge.
Sprinkle the shredded mozzarella cheese over the pizza sauce.
Add your desired toppings.
Bake the pizza in the preheated oven for 15-20 minutes, or until the crust is golden brown and the cheese is melted and bubbly.
Remove the pizza from the oven and let it cool for a few minutes before slicing and serving.
Cooking pizza with children is a great way to spend time together, and they will love being able to choose the toppings and help assemble the pizza. Enjoy! ❤️

We love group activities in our childcare setting - they bring people together and provide an opportunity to collaborate and learn from one another! In these special moments, children get to form precious friendships and are encouraged to think outside the box. Our group activities nurture a sense of community and instil self-confidence in our children as they explore new horizons. ❤️
The babies love to role-play in the kitchen!
Role-play activities can stimulate cognitive development by encouraging problem-solving, decision-making, and critical thinking. Children can also develop their creativity and imagination by inventing scenarios and characters. 😀

A child's growth benefits from sensory play since it enables them to explore and learn about their surroundings through their senses. The following are some of the main advantages of sensory play:
👉 Develops cognitive skills: Sensory play helps children to develop cognitive skills such as problem-solving, decision-making, and critical thinking. They learn to make connections between different sensory experiences and develop their ability to reason and make sense of the world.
👉 Enhances motor skills: Sensory play encourages children to engage in physical activities such as pouring, scooping, and manipulating objects. These activities help to develop fine motor skills, hand-eye coordination, and overall physical dexterity.
👉Promotes language development: Sensory play provides children with opportunities to use and learn new words, as they describe the textures, smells, and colours of the materials they are exploring.
Exploring textures sparks a wonderful and exciting opportunity for children to engage with their senses, particularly touch. Such engagement is essential in fostering sensory development and gives children a greater appreciation and understanding of their surroundings. 🍃
Reading can help children to develop their imaginations and enhance their creativity. They can visualise the characters, the settings, and the events of the story in their minds.
Reading to children is a wonderful way to promote their intellectual, social, and emotional development. 📖💡
Mud play can provide numerous benefits for children's development and well-being. Here are some of the key benefits of mud play for children:

👉 Creativity and Imagination: Mud play encourages children to use their creativity and imagination to explore and create with mud. They can make mud pies, build structures, or create mud sculptures, which promotes their imaginative play skills and fosters their creativity.
👉 Physical Development: Mud play involves physical activity, such as digging, scooping, pouring, and manipulating mud, which helps develop children's fine motor skills, hand-eye coordination, and strength. It also provides opportunities for gross motor skills development as they move and play in the mud, enhancing their physical development.
🚓'It's the sound of the Police'🚓
This morning, Blossoms Day Nursery have had two special visitors from West Midlands Police Service. The two officers explained their roles to the children and spoke about how they keep our community safe. The children asked lots of questions and they even got to explore the police car, sounding the alarm and flashing the big blue lights.👮♀️
The children were super excited trying out some of the clothes that the officers wear and they even took part in some role play scenarios to ensure our nursery is kept safe.
This week as part of our curriculum, the preschool children have been learning about people who help us and having this special visit has definitely inspired some of our children to want to become Police officers when they grow up. ⛑
We would like to say a huge thank you to West Midlands Police Service and to the two officers who came out to support our topic this week. The children have had an unforgettable experience.
