A first-round rejection does not always mean a weak study. Sometimes, the manuscript simply needs the right revisions.

Your reviewers may spot statistical problems you never noticed.

And surprisingly, many of these issues begin long before the manuscript is submitted.

Some of the most common statistical concerns reviewers raise include:

• Choosing a statistical test without checking its underlying assumptions
• Reporting p-values without effect sizes or confidence intervals
• Treating a small sample as adequately powered without proper justification
• Conducting multiple comparisons without appropriate correction
• Confusing correlation with causation when interpreting results

These issues can weaken an otherwise strong study and may lead to reviewer concerns, major revisions, or delays in publication.

The best solution is also one of the most overlooked:

Involve a statistician during study design, not after the data have already been collected.

Good statistical planning can prevent problems that become much harder to fix later.
