Reminder of events taking place today in Conwy!

I'll be there from 6pm, discussing the history of our fabulous town ❤️

Something exciting is coming to Conwy!

Llyfrgell Genedlaethol Cymru | The National Library of Wales has been visiting communities across Wales, and on Friday 25 September, they’re coming to Conwy!

I’ll be there throughout the day, and at 6pm I’ll be joining journalist Maxine Hughes for a panel discussion:

‘If These Walls Could Speak: Discovering Conwy’s History’

I am SO excited about this one!

The event is free, so please pop along if you can. It’s a great opportunity to explore some of the stories, memories and collections that help us understand Wales’s past - and to think about what they can still tell us about Conwy today.

As the National Library puts it:

“Through archive collections, creative activity and local partnerships, the tour will connect communities with the stories, memories and collections preserved by the National Library of Wales, inspiring new discoveries and fresh perspectives on Wales's past and present.”

I hope to see some familiar faces there!

Explore our six permanent galleries and temporary exhibitions, Railways of North Wales and 100 Years of Dresses, and enjoy:

• Family crafts • Artefact handling • Whistle-stop museum tours • Guided walking tours • Live slate-splitting demonstrations (Sunday only)

We're the yellow building next to the Queen of Hearts statue, beside Gloddaeth Church and opposite Seilo Chapel. The Town Hall car park is the closest car park, and the nearest bus stops are approximately a three-minute walk away.

The museum is fully accessible and has a lift.

🎨Local Historic Artist - George Hayes

Born in Huddersfield, this talented artist made his mark in the world of landscape painting. Around 1855, he left Manchester for the serene beauty of the Conwy Valley.

An early member of both the Manchester Academy and the Royal Cambrian Academy (RCA), his works were showcased at the Royal Academy in London, as well as in cities like Manchester (1877), Cardiff (1882), Newcastle (1884), and Liverpool (1885).

He painted some stunning landscapes of iconic North Welsh locations, including Conwy and Llandudno.

In 1881, he settled in Conwy, where he spent his final years. He passed away in 1895 at the age of 72 at his home in Gorphwysfa, Gyffin, and is buried in Gyffin Churchyard.
