I can’t quite believe Curiosity Club is back Tomorrow ! 🌦️🔬

Dr Jo Science has everything ready and is really looking forward to seeing / hear some familiar faces / voices and welcoming some new ones too.

We’ve deliberately kept the group small again this autumn and there are now only a few spaces left.

🎨 A Colour & Wonder update…

I’d originally planned to kick off Colour & Wonder with a few summer-y projects inspired by jellyfish and coral reefs, and offer them as a free little taster.

But somehow summer has disappeared in a flash, Royal Mail has been painfully slow, and by the time all the materials finally arrived… it seems the season has moved on. 😂

I don’t know about you, but I can already feel autumn creeping in. 🍂

So rather than trying to squeeze in something that no longer feels quite right - Colour & Wonder will properly begin in a couple of weeks with our autumn projects. 🎨✨

And one of our first inspirations will be Yayoi Kusama.

The more I’ve been learning about her, the more I’ve thought she feels like the perfect person to help us begin.

Long before the world celebrated her instantly recognisable dots, bold colours and immersive art, Kusama experienced the world in her own very distinctive way. She took some of the things she saw and experienced and turned them into art creating whole worlds that invited other people to step inside and see things a little differently too.

And that feels very Colour & Wonder.

Not learning to make art the “right” way.

Not trying to recreate somebody else’s picture perfectly.

But discovering artists and ideas, playing with colour and materials, experimenting with different processes and then seeing where your imagination takes you.

Because seeing things differently can be a pretty wonderful place to start. 💛

🚀 NEW: Space Exploration & Our Solar System

Created specifically with asynchronous learners in mind - children who may have lots of curiosity and knowledge, but whose reading, writing, communication or processing skills don’t necessarily develop at the same pace.

This new self-paced pack is designed to give children different ways into the same ideas, with visual explanations, short chunks of information, listening, simple challenges and opportunities to explore through talking, drawing, making and building.

Journey through our solar system and discover:

🪐 The eight planets and what makes them different
🧊 Why Pluto is a dwarf planet
🌍 Gravity, orbits and how they work
🌙 Moons, day and night
🚀 Rockets and space exploration

And because understanding doesn’t have to be demonstrated through lots of reading and writing, there are different ways to get involved, including an audio activity, visual and matching activities, designing a Moon rover, and even creating a space story through drawing, telling, writing or LEGO. 🧱✨

There’s no expectation to complete everything, work through it at a particular speed or demonstrate understanding in one particular way.

Dip in. Follow an interest. Explore it together. Go further when they want to.

🍂 Hello September and a gentle ‘not back to school’ to our families. 💛

September can feel a little different when your child isn’t heading back through the school gates.

For some families, home education is a positive and deliberate choice, something you’ve planned, looked forward to and feel excited about.

For others, it may be a path you never expected to take. Perhaps school simply wasn’t working for your child and home education became the choice you felt you needed to make.

And for many, it’s probably a mixture of feelings that doesn’t fit neatly into either.

So as a new September begins, there’s no expectation here that you should have everything planned out, recreate school at home, fill every day, or know exactly what the year ahead will look like.

You’re allowed to find your own rhythm.

To follow interests. To have slow days. To change direction. To try things that don’t work. To discover the things that do.

And most importantly, to make space for your child to be themselves.…..

Whether this is your very first ‘not back to school’ September or one of many, we’re really glad you’re here.

Here’s to a September filled with a little less pressure, plenty of curiosity and lots of opportunities to explore, create and discover in whatever way works for your family. 🌿

Introducing Colour & Wonder 🎨

A relaxed process art class run by Tanya
- not an artist, just someone who loves colour & making things!

🎨 How it works

* We start with looking at some real like inspiration, ideas or style if our project is inspired by an artist.
* I demonstrate the process, techniques and a few examples.
* Then it’s over to you to experiment, adapt and make it your own.

✨ What is process art?

It’s about enjoying the making rather than aiming for a perfect end result. There’s no right way for your creation to look, no comparison and no experience needed.

💛 Share if you’d like

An optional private WhatsApp group gives you a space to share what you’ve made and see creations from others taking part (optional)

📦 What about supplies?

* Optional kits will be available.
* We’ll suggest lower-cost or household alternatives wherever possible.
* If you do need to invest in a specialist material, we’ll plan ahead to use it again in future projects.

The joy is in experimenting, making and seeing what happens, although we hope you’ll love what you create too!

But what would we add as number 10? I genuinely can’t choose…

✨ That she has two neurodivergent children herself (she gets it)

✨ Her incredible calmness and genuine fascination with whatever the children ask, tell her or want to explore.

✨Her Donald Duck impression (did you see that post?)

✨ Or, if you ask my daughter, the VERY most important fact that she’s worked with Dr Chris from Operation Ouch! AND Dame Maggie Aderin-Pocock🤩 on the SI Christmas lectures.
