LIGHT & DARK
💡 Making our own zoo with blocks and animals

WOODLAND CREATURES
🐿️ Vets role play as the children love caring for the dolls/ animals
🐿️ Local nature reserve to hunt for the mice on the trail and looks for signs of woodland animals
🐿️ Trip to the park and enjoyed feeding the squirrels
🐿️ Went to the Natural History Museum where we explored life cycles and food chains
🐿️ Had lunch at a restaurant and enjoyed scratch art, stickers and water colouring
🐿️ Made magnets at toddler group
🐿️ Den building and hibernating
🐿️ Baking lemon oat cookies

FIRE
🔥 Went to soft play to explore the fire truck there and all the equipment
🔥 Learnt about fire safety through stories and videos, tested our smoke alarm and had a fire drill, and role played being firefighters
🔥 Went to the woods to collect autumn treasures. We showed the children how to make a camp fire and gave them a battery candle to light it. Played hide and seek with the candles too, counting to 15 whilst they were hid in the woods and then finding them as quickly as we could!
🔥 Kinetic sand where making cakes is always the favourite thing to do, so we added real candles and sparklers and the children were fascinated when we lit them.
🔥 Firefighter small world table
🔥 Making chalk paint by grating and pouring, then using it to create firework pictures
🔥 Got out the Paw Patrol toys to role play rescuing and helping, and enjoyed completing puzzles

PUMPKINS
🎃 Off to Markshall estate for Forest School in the Wild Wood, a scavenger hunt, and to find pumpkins
🎃 A trip to the toy library
🎃 Making jelly for our party
🎃 Role playing in the Halloween fancy dress shop
🎃 Creating pumpkin/ vegetable soup
🎃 Creating autumn wreaths with stickers
🎃 Halloween pasta play
🎃 Balloons, games and a special lunch for our Halloween party
🎃 Decorating pumpkin masks to take home with our party bags

SPIDERS
🕷️ Reading Spinderella at Forest school then adding legs to spiders and going on a hunt for them
🕷️ Creating Halloween cards with stamps and stickers
🕷️ Spider web tuff tray and slime
🕷️ Going on a walk around the neighbourhood to find spider Halloween decorations
🕷️Trip to the zoo to look for spiders and insects
🕷️ Enjoying throwing our sticky spiders at the windows and racing them
🕷️Cooking churros
🕷️ Making our own spiders with tubes and pip cleaners

HEDGEHOGS
🦔 Trip to a garden centre to find hedgehogs! We discovered a whole hedgehog display and learnt how to care for them, and bought hedgehog food and a bowl. There were hedgehog toys, books, ornaments and key rings too! We enjoyed lots of trips on the mini train and time in the park whilst there too.
🦔 Hunted for spiky items at Forest School
🦔 Made salt dough and used it with sticks and paint to create our own hedgehogs
🦔 Learnt about hibernation and made a den
🦔 Used pasta and play dough as an invitation to make hedgehogs
🦔 Water paint and stencils to produce hedgehog pictures

STICKS
🪾Visit to the zoo and soft play there, then home to create zoo stick puppets using paint sticks and doing shows with them
🪾Forest school collecting sticks and ordering them by size, playing Pooh sticks in the water, building stick houses and playing Three Little Pigs
🪾Creating rain sticks
🪾Using sticks to make different shapes
🪾Baking bread sticks
🪾Adding sticks to play dough where the children used them to make birthday cakes

LEAVES
🍁 Forest school collecting and identifying different leaves, then cutting them with scissors and a hole punch
🍁 Leaf rubbing
🍁 Adding herbs to our mud kitchen
🍁 Visit to our local library and coffee shop

🍎 Making play dough apples, colouring and finger painting them to practise counting and fine motor skills
🍎 Water play with apple scented shampoo to bath the babies
