✨ Stanway Primary School Key Stage 2 Highlights ✨
What a fantastic week across Key Stage 2! Here’s a snapshot of all the wonderful learning taking place.
🎨 Year 3
Our classroom became an art studio as pupils created amazing Eric Joyner-inspired robot artwork! 🤖 Bright backgrounds and imaginative designs made each piece unique—well done! 👏
📚 Year 4
A great start back! Pupils explored The Firework Maker’s Daughter, built inference skills, practised telling the time ⏰ and started Sports Day prep 🏃♂️ with fantastic teamwork.
🛡️ Year 5
We’ve begun learning about the Vikings, explored The Kraken 🐙 and created poem maps. In Science, pupils impressed us with life cycle posters 🌱, while swimming 🏊 and Sports Day practice continue.
🌍 Year 6
From designing zoos 🦁 in Maths to desert island diary writing 🏝️ in English, it’s been a creative week! Map skills 🗺️ and production rehearsals 🎭 are also in full swing.

🌟 This week at Stanway Primary 🌟
Reception 🍎
We’ve loved our fruit theme this week—exploring, tasting, and creating fun fruity faces on rice crackers! 😋 Our trip was a big success 🐾 and we’re excited to share photos on Tapestry soon. Our butterflies also hatched and were released into the wildlife area 🦋—a special moment!
Year 1 🌼
A lovely walk to Grymes D**e helpedI us explore plants 🌿. In class, we learned about edible plant parts, position and direction in Maths ➡️⬅️, and finished our beautiful Spring poems ✍️.
Year 2 🔍
We investigated whether woodlice prefer damp or dry environments 🐛 and continued learning about time ⏰. Our explanation writing on a chicken’s life cycle was fantastic—great work!

🌟 End of Half Term Tea Party Celebration 🌟
What a wonderful way to finish the half term! Today we held our special Celebration Tea Parties with Mrs Loader and Mr Godwin🫖🍰
Two children from each class were invited to join Mrs Loader or Mr Godwin for a tea party in recognition of their fantastic efforts this half term. These pupils were chosen for consistently following our school rules and for demonstrating our school values every day – we are so proud of them all!
It was lovely to celebrate their achievements with some tasty treats .
Well done to all of our invited pupils – you are shining examples of our school community ⭐

⚽ Year 6 Football ⚽
The football team wore the new kit for the first time on Wednesday! The team looked really smart and played really well, but unfortunately weren't able to get the win, losing 4-0 to Mersea Primary.
Each player played their best and the team remained united during a frustrating match where Mersea's keeper was by far their best player - he was the reason we couldn't get a goal despite numerous efforts from a variety of players including Jaxson whose close range shot was destined for the back of the net, but again was stopped by the Mersea goalkeeper.

🌟 Another Great Week at School! 🌟
Year 3 🍫
Year 3 became reporters this week, interviewing W***y Wonka and Charlie Bucket! They learnt how to use speech marks and added quotes to their own newspaper articles. Fantastic creativity and enthusiasm! 📝✨
Year 4 💡🏏
In Science, children built circuits and loved seeing bulbs light up! They’ve also been learning about money in Maths, practising cricket skills, and preparing Greek-themed writing and artwork.
Year 5 🛡️🌱
A fun Anglo-Saxon day included rune riddles and acting out crimes! In Maths, they explored coordinates and translation, while in Science they studied life cycles and plant growth. Forest School was a big hit too! 🌳
Year 6 🎨🌟
Year 6 showed amazing resilience during SATs—well done! They’ve also continued their optical illusion art, with some beautiful pieces on display.

🌟 This Week at Stanway Primary School! 🌟
Reception 🐝
A fantastic assembly kicked off the week—full of singing, poems and artwork. Well done Rosen & Hendra! 👏
In Maths, we practised adding more by counting on. Our Creative Star Challenge saw brilliant junk model minibeasts 🐞. We also cared for a bee9 and learned all about it!
🦋 Caterpillar update: chrysalises are forming… we’re excited to watch the transformation!
Year 1 ✏️
In English, we began magic key stories and finished beautiful Spring poems 🌸.
Maths focused on counting in 5s and 10s and equal groups ➕.
In Science, we explored trees 🌳, and Forest School brought lots of creative fun 🎨.
Year 2 ⏰
We’ve been learning to tell the time on analogue clocks.
In English, we started explanation texts, and we’re busy rehearsing our minibeast assembly 🐛🎶.
History focused on George Stephenson 🚂, and in Science we loved making a wormery 🪱!

🌟 This Week at Stanway Primary School! 🌟
🔺Year 3 have been exploring 3D shapes through fun, hands‑on activities 🙌 Using marshmallows and spaghetti, the children built models to understand edges and vertices, showing great teamwork and resilience. They also explored nets of 3D shapes, predicting and testing which shapes they would make using accurate Maths vocabulary.
🏛️️In English, Year 4 have begun writing their own Greek myths ✍️ The children have created imaginative heroes, mythical creatures and exciting settings inspired by the legends they’ve read 🐉⚔️ Their creativity has been fantastic to see!
📚⚽Year 5 have had a busy week! In English, they have written wonderful myths and continued reading Beowulf in preparation for writing their own legends. In Maths, they’ve been ordering and comparing decimals 🔢 and revising arithmetic through fun activities.
In Science, the children compared life cycles of birds and mammals 🐦🐾, while in PSHE they discussed ways to protect the planet 🌍 They’ve also loved their Joy of Moving sports sessions with Colchester United, including cricket coaching 🏏
🌟Year 6 have worked incredibly hard during Practice SATs week, showing fantastic focus, resilience and positive attitudes 📘✅
In English, they planned and wrote first‑person narratives inspired by the music video Titanium 🎶✍️ In Maths, they strengthened skills in fractions and percentages, and in Science learned about plant classification 🌱
In Art, the children explored optical illusions inspired by Bridget Riley, producing some striking artwork 🎨🖍️
👏 Well done to all our KS2 pupils for another brilliant week of learning and achievements!

⚽Year 6 Football⚽
Our Football A Team played their first match on Wednesday. It was away at St Luke's and after a great match, the final score was 5-5!
All players performed brilliantly and were respectful throughout.
