Our little ones have been busy creating something very special for the Heather Scarecrow Festival Competition! 🌿🍂

This year we've brought The Gruffalo and the Squirrel to life, and we couldn't be prouder of their hard work and creativity. 🐭🌰🌲

If you're passing through Heather, please come by, have a look, and show our scarecrow some love! We'd love to hear what you think.

Thank you for supporting our childminding family and all the wonderful entries in the competition. 💚

Big thankyou to Emma Robson for taking the time to get him there and set it all up while I’m away, appreciate it a lot 🥰

What an amazing day out for the little squirrels! 🎪🐿️

Today we had a fantastic visit to Cirquoise at Gates Garden Centre, where the children were captivated by the incredible performances, colourful costumes, and magical circus atmosphere. 🤹✨

There were lots of smiles, laughter, and excited little faces as we watched the talented performers. Experiences like these help build confidence, encourage curiosity, and create wonderful memories together. ❤️

A big thank you to everyone at Cirquoise for such a brilliant show! 🌟

🐍 last week we also combined our Gruffalo learning with National Snake Day for a fun, hands on activity!

We talked about where we might recognise snakes from, and the children shared some wonderful ideas:

“The zoo.”
“The pet shop.”
“The Gruffalo.”
“Snakes live outside in the woods, in a log pile house.”

The children thoroughly enjoyed exploring our sensory pasta snake, scrambling it up, filling and emptying different containers, and engaging in imaginative play. It was a fantastic opportunity to develop their communication, fine motor skills, and understanding of the world, while having lots of fun!

Lat week we explored the life cycle of a snake. We learned that snakes begin life inside a small egg, before hatching into tiny baby snakes. As they grow, they become larger and eventually develop into adult snakes.

The children created their own snake life cycle using a variety of paints and mark-making tools, enjoying the opportunity to experiment with different textures and patterns.

Throughout the activity, we focused on how living things change and grow over time, discussing how they develop from being small to becoming big. This encouraged the children to think about growth, change, and the life cycles of animals in a fun and creative way.

🦖 Dinosaur Child-Led Activity 🦕

Our Little Squirrels have been showing a huge interest in dinosaurs, so this week we followed their lead and enjoyed a variety of exciting dinosaur-themed activities! 🌿✨

The children had lots of fun creating dinosaur stomp paintings, exploring different colours, patterns, and marks as the dinosaurs walked through the paint. 🎨👣

We also explored a messy dinosaur tuff tray, where the dinosaurs splashed and bathed in a swamp before hunting for insects hidden in slimy jelly! 🦕🪰💚 The children loved getting hands-on, using their imaginations, and engaging in sensory play as they explored the different textures.

These child-led experiences supported creativity, imaginative play, sensory exploration, and fine motor development, all while having a roaring good time! 🦖🌟

Today was a very special day as we celebrated one of our wonderful little ones before they move on to their next adventure of school 💙

At their request, we enjoyed a picnic lunch followed by a little party with lots of music, smiles and laughter. She proudly wore her special leavers top, making the day even more memorable.

To top it all off, I had organised a surprise visit from the ice cream van, and everyone enjoyed a delicious ice cream treat!🍦

It's been such a privilege to watch you grow, learn, and flourish. We wish you every happiness and success as you start your exciting new chapter. You'll always have a special place in our hearts. Good luck! 🌟❤️

What a lovely post from a wonderful parent.

It’s very bitter sweet, As we loose our first child to school this year, she’s ready to start her exciting school journey, it's a wonderful reminder that every child grows, learns, and develops in their own unique way.

As childminders, we have the privilege of getting to know each child as an individual celebrating their strengths, supporting their interests, and helping them build confidence at their own pace. There is no "one size fits all" when it comes to children, and that's what makes this job so special.

While it's always bittersweet to say goodbye as she moves on to school, it's also a proud moment. Watching her leave with happy memories, new skills, and the confidence to take her next big step is one of the greatest rewards of childminding.

Wishing her the very best on her next adventure. Keep shining, keep exploring, and always be yourself we couldn't be prouder! 💛📚✨

Bring on the last few weeks of adventures, parties and surprises for our school leaver 🥰

What a busy week we had last week at Lorna’s Little Squirrels! 🐿️

We had a fantastic visit from Ellie, Ray of Stars who got everyone moving, singing, and having lots of fun.

The children also enjoyed a wonderful trip to Bradgate Park, where we explored the outdoors and took in all the beautiful scenery.

Back at Little Squirrels, we got creative by making a start on our scarecrow, and the children loved helping out!

It’s been a week full of smiles, learning, fresh air, creativity, and happy memories. Thank you to all our wonderful children and families we're looking forward to another fun filled week ahead!

Can anyone guess what we might be making for our scarecrow??
