Boskins Barn

Boskins Barn Boskins Barn and cookery school is nestled under Clougha Pike with views across the valley in the idyllic countryside of the Forest of Bowland.

Foodie extras are available during your stay and look out for our cooking courses on offer throughout the year. I'm Adrienne, owner of Boskins Barn and Cookery school in the beautiful Forest of Bowland. I recently relocated here to be closer to nature and the wonderful British countryside. After renovating the old cattle shed on our farm, we started a holiday let and delivering cookery workshops.

My background is in food and nutrition and I have worked in product development in industry and taught food in schools for many years. I love to cook and use local, natural produce to make delicious and nutritious food to share with family and friends and I enjoy sharing my knowledge and skills with others. So why not indulge in some foodie extras during your stay such as a ready made meal on arrival, a breakfast basket, a picnic to take away, an afternoon tea or a cookery workshop tailored to your needs? The choice is yours!

Blackberries and apples were the flavours of the month, ripened early by the summer sunshine, and hazelnuts came tumbling from the trees. 🍎🌰

August also brought some much-needed rain, bringing the heather to life on the moor. Let’s hope the bees have made the most of the late-summer forage. 🐝🍯

The barn has been fully booked with families enjoying the school holidays and our younger guests have enjoyed the excitement of feeding the sheep and collecting the eggs each morning on the farm. 🐑🥚

As the season comes to an end, we look back on one of the hottest summers on record.

An hour’s hike up the fell from the barn brings you to a rather special hidden gem — Andrew Goldsworthy’s Clougha Pike Chambers. ⛰️

Easily missed from the path, they suddenly appear behind a mound of stone as you turn to admire the view. It’s quite a spectacle!

The area was once a gritstone quarry, and today great piles of stone scatter the landscape amongst the heather and bilberries, creating a wonderfully wild and atmospheric setting. 💜

Just one of the many little treasures waiting to be discovered around Boskins Barn and the Forest of Bowland. 🥾

🐿️ Unfortunately the squirrels beat me to the hazelnuts this year🌰

The hot weather ripened them early, and the long dry spell sent them tumbling from the trees before I had a chance to gather them. Somewhere in the orchard, I’m sure there’s a squirrel with a rather impressive nut mountain stashed away for winter! 😂

I managed to rescue a precious handful which I’ll leave to fully ripen before shelling and drying them — ready to add that gorgeous toasted, nutty flavour to something delicious 🤎 perhaps rich chocolate and hazelnut tart, crunchy granola … or perhaps a savoury salad with a scattering of toasted nuts? 😋

What would you choose to make?
