Reminder……

Language development shouldn’t (typically) be teach and test (say dog, what does a dog say? What’s that? Count 1, 2, 3)

It should be fluid. Conversational.

There are some children who need a more direct approach, those with speech disorders and delays may need a more structured approach. But when we are starting out with newborns (until we see a concern) we should be looking to follow these.

We had burrito bowls and tacos yesterday. Here you can see the different ways we serve food depending on the recipient. Some children find new textures difficult or foods that aren’t their favourite or are disliked to be stressful when served. Most meals we serve family/buffet style and everyone chooses what they have and how much. Sometimes we serve food individually too, here you can see some ‘safe’ foods (rice, raw peppers and cucumber) and some optional tasting foods (mince with onions, seasoning and cooked peppers and salad leaves. Children are always given a choice of how much and what they eat, safe foods are always available. This allows children to feel in control and avoids creating negative relationships with food.
You may also notice that we have served not in plastic crockery. This is something we build up to, by trusting littles with fragile things they begin to learn how to be careful, when to move slowly and gently. We start with plastic/wooden materials slowly moving to ceramics (starting with less loved (by us) items )

A little room rotation featuring our new piece. A ballerina bar - perfect for den building and more.

As part of our confidence boosting, we are doing story telling in our play house. Using our shop as a theatre B tells us wonderful tales involving lots of animals and props. Wonderful for speech and language practise too.

We’ve also moved our babies 🪴, as L was on the hunt for them and they wouldn’t have lasted long.

We will bring them down to B and Ls level for watering and chatting to and then return them safely to their homes.

I think this is actually my favourite set up out here so far.

Did you spot our bright idea, little the coat rack inside the basket to house our shoes and extras. 🤣🤣
