What a wonderful event our Bumps & Babies walk was! πŸ’›

Today Birth Your Own Way & BUCKS MUMS 🀱🏻 came together to welcome pregnant women and new mums on a lovely walk in

We wanted to create an opportunity for connection, friendship and an hour or 2 to unwind in a safe space.

Finding 'your village' as a mum isn't easy and connections with other mums is a huge part of that. Motherhood can be lonely and we need to know we aren't the only one feeling that way.

We had 5 mums, a bump, 3 little babies and 3 bouncy toddlers! It was brilliant! Friendships were made all round and all the ladies went away with a little something to help them relax in their own time.

This kind of event will definitely be happening again. If you are interested contact me or Fia at BUCKS MUMS 🀱🏻 to get involved.

🌬️ Let's talk about Gas & Air

Some people feel that the sensations of labour and birth are too intense or overwhelming for them at some points in their labour. And that's a very normal thing to feel.

Labour is big, it's powerful and that's because bringing new life into the world is a huge and transformative thing to do. So the feelings match that, even if you wouldn't describe the feelings as painful, although many do.

So pain relief and comfort measures can be helpful. And it's good to know your options!

Gas and air, medically often known as Entonox, is a great way to manage labour sensations.

As I say in the video it has pros and cons. But it's a great thing to try. Sometimes it can make us feel pretty out of it and verbalising your needs can be hard for some people, like the lady in my story!

Although it was a little funny in hindsight, we always need to be aware of the pennyroyal eats they pain relief can hinder us.

I'd love to hear about your experiences with gas and air! Funny, brilliant or not something you liked... Let's talk about it!

Feel free to DM me with any questions you have about pain relief or anything to do with birth.

There is still time to get on the waitlist, but not much!

I'll be inviting those on the waitlist to join the masterclass first. If you want to be the first to know, make sure you are on the waitlist!

After the success of my last masterclass I'm so excited to be holding another one.

This brilliant event will give you the opportunity to learn about what hypnobirthing really is, because I can tell you now it's NOT fluffy and it's NOT hippy and it's NOT only for people having a homebirth.

You will learn practical hints and tips to help you have the birth that's right for you and gain ideas about how your birth partners can support you in a way that makes a difference.

You will also find out how the maternity system works and how to get the best out of it.

And you will go away with real tools and techniques that you can use during labour and birth to help you have a great experience.

All of this (and more) led by experienced midwife, Amy.

If you would like to be a part of this masterclass and take the next step towards having the birth that's right for you, then DM me!

We are all pretty disconnected from our bodies.

But in labour we need to tune in, to let our brains switch off and switch off the over thinking. But that is easier said than done. So you need to PRACTICE!

Going for a walk, resting in nature, finding a moment in your body life to breath and focus on your body can be so helpful.

Consider what you can see, what you can hear, what you can feel, what you can smell and sometimes what you can taste.

This is where mindfulness comes into what I teach. Take time to be present with what is calm around you, with how you feel, with what your body is saying and you will find this concept easier and easier each time.

Happy World Breastfeeding Week!

And it just so happens that I'm starting a new role! As an Infant Feeding specialist midwife! 😲

I'm very excited and can't wait to join this team, gain some more skills and help women and families have better feeding journeys.

My own early breastfeeding experience wasn't easy. In fact it was pretty traumatic. But I pushed through because of my knowledge of how important breastfeeding is, my sheer determination and because of the fact that my birth experience wasn't great so I needed a win. And now I'm still breastfeeding a 3 year old, and I'm so grateful for that.

I am so happy to be able to support people with feeding their babies, whether that be breastfeeding, pumping, or formula feeding, because these moments with our babies are where parents and babies thrive. x

Almost everybody, during pregnancy and birth will encounter a change of plan, a curve ball, a twist in the road.

Some people choose to go with the flow, because they believe that they have no control over what happens and because the professionals know best.

Others write a birth plan in great detail and don't consider the other possibilities. They stick their head in the sand and choose to only think positively.

These are neither helpful to your sense of safety or likely to help you get an experience you feel good about.

You are more likely to feel that you had some loss of control and that you weren't a part of the decisions being made or weren't listened to.

This is because neither of the above approaches to birth planning actually consider decision making. And you will need to, and be expected to, make decisions...

Understanding the fact that things don't always go to plan is a good start. This can be for so many reasons.

Preparing yourself for any potential decisions can:

- help you work through potential possibilities including pros and cons
- allow you time to consider what is right for you
- give you the opportunity to discuss your wishes with your birth partners so that they can advocate for you
- help you learn how to make decisions
- mean you have practiced this skill BEFORE you go into labour.

Decision making in pregnancy and especially in labour is not easy.

As long as you have been given all the relevant information in an unbiased and clear way, in a way that you can understand and you have been given the time to consider those options, then whatever decision you come to, is the right one for you.

If you would like to discuss this more or would like to know more about my services contact me.
