Friends of Conakry Refugee School

Friends of Conakry Refugee School Friends of CRS is a UK registered charity run entirely by volunteers and based in Shropshire. It is the sole supporter of CRS.

CRS provides a comprehensive education for 600 vulnerable students enabling them to progress from kindergarten to graduation and providing them with the qualifications to continue on to vocational or Higher Education or to enter the labour market. The curriculum is taught in English as both Liberia and Sierra Leone, the countries from which most of its pupils had fled, are English-speaking.

WHAT YOU CAN ACHIEVE WITH £500 in GUINEA
Today the students at CRS were the change they want to see.
Members of CRS's Health club led by Jeremiah Reeves, IT teacher and health club member, took on the challenge of cleaning the road around the school to help make the environment more healthy and pleasant. Funding of £500 was provided by FCRS and Sostibl.

The attitude of Jeremiah to the inability of government to solve local problems that massively impact people's lives is impressive.

For 5 months Jeremiah Reeves has taught the 50 club members about sustainability and how to create solutions to local problems following a sustainability structure. Club members analysed problems in their community and selected a problem they felt they could impact significantly with a small amount of money to support their efforts.

What they did goes far beyond litter picking.

⛈️When the rainy season hits rubbish blocks drains and floods compounds and roads leaving some trapped in their homes.

⚠️without effectual waste water drainage homes discharge onto the street causing a health hazard

💪🏿 making a small viable change grows agency and builds momentum

🧑‍🧑‍🧒‍🧒by solving a local problem the students improved the school's standing in the community and encouraged families to enrol for next year
