“My child won’t do any writing homework” - I’ve heard this a lot over the years. 👂🏻👂🏻

My question is - why? Once we unpick this, we can make huge strides with writing at home. 🏠👀🤷🏻‍♂️

There are ‘many’ barriers that make children find writing a slog BUT ‘not writing’ won’t help. Build up the experiences by reassuring, modelling (if need be) and not picking up on every mistake! A few well-written sentences (or words if younger) are better than lots of rushed ones. Quality matters more than quantity. ✏️🤩

Praise, praise & praise again so the child knows that you are impressed with simply the fact that they are writing at home! 👏🏻

Keep the writing experiences short & snappy. 🐊

If you want to take things further, read the schools writing policy (it will be on the school website). It will tell you what is expected of a child at each age stage. 🧑🏻‍💻💻👩🏻‍💻
