One of the pleasures of inviting OEs back to school is to see their joy, and that of staff, when they are reunited. Yesterday we were delighted to welcome Annabel Middleton, who spoke to students as part of our week-long celebration of Here she is meeting up with Terri just before her talk ❤️
It was fantastic to welcome OE Liv Rigby back to school yesterday to deliver the first of a week-long programme of talks to mark . She spoke to a packed Old Library of students of all ages and genders on one of the IWD missions this year - 'Women Forging Change'.
Join us for our second talk to celebrate OE Annabel Middleton, Director at YourBodyMeansBusiness, will share how to realise your limitless potential by putting your wellness first, with simple tips that can make a massive difference to your life and the importance of empowering women’s choices in health. As is our long-standing tradition, we marked the annual act of Remembrance on Friday 11 November. This included a special service in the Chapel and a wreath-laying ceremony at the school’s War Memorial. Led by the Chaplain, the service included special hymns, performances by our choirs and soloists, and readings by the Head Boy and Head Girl. We were honoured to be joined by special guest, Lieutenant Archie Taylor of the Irish Guards, who outlined his role in the army, what Remembrance means to him and what inspires his Christian faith.
Our act of Remembrance is moving, and not least in the company of our whole school community of more than 1,000 students and staff who act as witnesses to the wreath-laying ceremony to remember fallen OEs and then take part in a two-minute respectful silence in memory of those from our community who gave their lives.
Our school archivist, Andrew Beattie, researched and wrote a special booklet about Eltham’s wartime experiences. Called “The College at War”, it covers Eltham’s experience of living through periods of war in the last century, the school’s wartime evacuation, and how we ‘remember’ today. You can read ‘The College at War’ here:https://www.elthamcollege.london/wp-content/uploads/The-College-at-War-Booklet-November-2021.pdf

Lower Sixth are taking part in this week and we've been able to offer that meet a wide range of interests with ranging from barristers’ chambers to architect practices, global engineering companies and publishers to investment banks! Good luck to them all and we can't wait to hear all about it after the half term break.
Great to see an OE featured in The Times crossword this weekend. One clue solved, but any help with the finch greatly appreciated 🐦
Continuing the horticultural theme started yesterday, as well as the amazing school Wisteria on The Quad, the yellow roses are currently looking truly magnificent on the Music School.
Nestled among this fabulous display, eagle-eyed visitors will spot a plaque commemorating Joan Brown, a long-term teacher of Junior School boys. The building previously housed both the classrooms and dormitories for the youngest students at Eltham College from 1924-1960.
It has been noted by many, including the great News from Monty Don, that this year has been exceptional when it comes to Wisteria. I think we'd have to agree the magnificent display on The Quad this afternoon bears testament to that fact.
