Sevington Victorian School An authentic village schoolroom, opened in 1848, closed in 1913 and still almost unchanged. www.sevi The committee has signed a 21-year repairing lease.

Sevington school is run by a committee whose prime concern is to offer a visit of quality linked to the National Curriculum. The Sevington School Project is a registered charity with no guaranteed income. Currently the project receives no regular financial support from other agencies. Occasional grants and sponsorship have helped but cannot be relied on. Hence the project has to financially surviv

e on a day to day basis. Responsibilities of the project lease include care of the premises, heating, lighting, insurance, telephone and safety requirements. Despite the fact that we are non-profit making we still have to function as a business. Money has to be kept in reserve for emergencies, dealing with wear and tear and building repairs. We invest regularly in improved resources for the benefit of all our customers. The bulk of our income to pay for this is from booking and membership fees. Only just over a month to go until our first Summer Sunday open afternoon for 2025 on 18th May. Lots of attractions, including demonstrations of Victorian lace making and riding a penny-farthing bicycle. And, of course, our delicious home-made teas.

It's our last opening for 2024 this Sunday afternoon, 15th September, from 2-5pm. As part of Heritage Open Days, entry is free, so please plan us into your schedule of visits. There's lots to see and do for adults and children: lovely Victorian buildings and garden, a Victorian school experience and, of course, delicious home-made Victorian cakes. See you on Sunday!

Don't miss our last opening for 2023 this Sunday, 10th September, 2 - 5 pm!
Free entry as part of Heritage Open Days. Experience a Victorian schoolroom lesson, visit the school mistress's house and gardens, find out how the Victorian penny-farthing bicycle was ridden, play with our Victorian toys and sample our delicious home-made teas in our shady garden.

Looking for a different activity for the summer holidays? Interested in how the Victorians got around? Come and find out about the penny-farthing bicycle of the 1870s and 1880s at our open afternoon on Sunday 6th August from 2-5 pm.

The weather is set fair, the garden's looking lovely and we're open tomorrow, Sunday 21st, from 2-5 pm. Come and look round the school and school house, and for this Sunday only we have a plant stand with lots of plants to tempt you. Come and support us, no need to book.

Closure of Sevington School for the Funeral of Queen Elizabeth II

It is with great sadness that we mourn the passing of our Queen, Elizabeth II, the great-great granddaughter of Queen Victoria. The Queen spent her final days at Balmoral, the royal residence which both she and Queen Victoria held particularly dear.

We send our condolences to all members of the Royal Family. As a mark of respect, Sevington Victorian School will remain closed on the day of Queen Elizabeth’s funeral, Monday 19th September.

Summer Sunday Opening 17th July, 2-5pm

If you are planning to come to the Open Day on Sunday, please be advised that our schoolmistress, Miss Squire, is indisposed due to the sultry weather and will be unable to demonstrate her methods. In these exceptional circumstances she has ruled that is permissible for ladies to leave off their stays and gentlemen to attend in shirt sleeves.
Tours of the schoolroom and house as well as refreshments in the garden will still be available, but the session on Toys and Games will not now take place.
