PROXY-PARENTING 👶🏻

Definition:
When a Nanny takes over the role of 'parent' providing care 24 hours a day for a short period of time. This can be anything from a weekend to a number of weeks.

We proxy-parented from Friday - Sunday at the beginning of this month with a baby under 1.

I had a great helper with me 😌 but the tips that I found made the weekend go smoothly are below:

• I did the nursery drop-off on the Friday lunchtime as I was on pick up duty that evening and I wanted my face to be familiar to baby.

• We kept his routine as close as possible to his regular routine, I was prepared for baby to be more unsettled so would tweak it if it needed to be. For example, he was breastfed mainly so any feeds during the night I would give him extra comfort and give him extra time to settle.

• If baby wasn’t in the mood for certain things I didn’t push it, I wanted to keep him as settled and happy as possible. For example, a few meal times he just wanted comfort and wasn’t in the mood to eat so we had cuddles instead with him eating on my lap.

• We had morning soft play booked for both weekend mornings which got us out of the house and active!

• We didn’t do any video calls with his parents, it’s always the parents call but I find that seeing their parents unsettles the child. Instead I sent regular photos and videos to the parents via a WhatsApp group created for that weekend.

There is 2 years between them and it was rocky for lil a while (mainly her knocking down his magnetile towers!) 😂 BUT they are truly best buds and have the best 'playdates' EVER! 🫶🏽

This week has been so full on but for all the right reasons 🥰

It feels so good to have been reminded that I smash anything I put my mind to and getting that feedback was needed…sometimes you just need to hear it.

Going into something other than Childcare, which I’ve worked in for 15 years, was always going to be unsettling but Lauren is back and she has so much more to offer outside of being a Mummy and a Nanny 🫶🏽

Very much looking forward to where this journey takes me 😏

I thought another introduction was due as it’s been a while and I’ve definitely seen few new faces!

I’m Lauren and I’m the face behind Lauren The Nanny.

I’ve been a Nanny for around 13 years with an overall background in childcare over the past 15 years!

I’m a Mum of two little people, an almost 11 year old boy and almost 4 year old girl. Since I returned to work with my son he became part of the package and the same with my daughter when she was born, a little unconventional I know but it worked!

Up until recently I have worked continuously with the same families that I started Lauren The Nanny with (in 2018) but now I’ve decided that I’ll only be taking on ad hoc and specific bookings - weddings/events etc!

Before LTN I worked with individual families over the years and built up wonderful long-standing relationships and we are all still in contact 🥰

For those of you that have been there from the beginning I’m so glad you have stuck around and those new faces, WELCOME 🤗

I’ve got a real mix over here from childcare professionals to parents and everyone else in between!
