Another week gone by. This half term is absolute flying! Halloween will be upon us before we know it.
I didn't get many pictures this week, apart from of these amazing children in their Jolly Independent class. They were dressing up as the sorcerer and cleaning the wizard's house. A bit of child labour never hurt anyone.... 😂😂😂

This is my nephew, Reuben, 2 years ago. And what's he singing? The Little House song! This week I've noticed loads of your little ones singing along to this and/or doing the actions.

Throwback Thursday.
Here's my Ada about 5 years ago 🙀 singing the Little House song. She'd been singing it in class with Jolly Melodies Dronfield
Lots of your little ones seem to have been internalising this song and are busy showing off their actions this week in class or at home!
It's one that proves popular year after year.
I love the fact she insists Daddy sings it about a third out instead of asking me. Hey ho!

🥁 5 things your toddler learns when they make A LOT of noise! 🔊

If your toddler has discovered that EVERYTHING makes a noise when you bang it… welcome to the percussion phase! 😂

But that enthusiastic banging, tapping, shaking and drumming isn't just noise. There's actually a LOT of learning going on!

🎵 1. LOUD & SOFT
They're beginning to discover that they can control how much sound they make - and that the same instrument can sound very different depending on how they play it.

👂 2. LISTENING
When we ask our toddlers to make a sound and then stop… they're practising listening, attention and responding to instructions.

🖐️ 3. COORDINATION
Picking up, holding, shaking, tapping and hitting instruments helps develop hand-eye coordination and control.

🧠 4. CAUSE & EFFECT
“I hit it… and it makes a sound!”
They're learning that their actions can create a result - a really important early learning concept.

🎶 5. MUSICAL CONFIDENCE
They're discovering that THEY can make music! There isn't always a right or wrong way to explore a sound, and that freedom helps build confidence and creativity.

So the next time your toddler is enthusiastically drumming on a saucepan, banging their toys together or experimenting with just how loud they can possibly be…
