We've had a fabulous Sports Day, with all of our children, from Nursery to Y6, participating in a packed day of events. The weather has been wonderful, the kids enthusiastic (and super speedy!), and our parents the best cheerleaders we could hope for.

Special thanks to our PTA for hosting refreshments and a raffle and making a last minute emergency run to get a new microphone when the one we had ready met with a terrible accident just as the day began. Having such fantastic parent volunteers makes these events that much more special - thank you!

What a fantastic World Book Day 2023 we have had! This afternoon our Y6s and Reading Ambassadors read together with our younger pupils, and it was just lovely to watch them giggle and gape and gasp and share their love of reading with each other.

With the recent tragedy in Solihull, the Derbyshire Fire & Rescue Service have asked us to share the following information posters with our community, which are adapted for different ages.

Have you heard the news that we have moved our two smaller libraries into one big, fantastic space in our Kinder Scout classroom? The space is going to be AMAZING when it is done, complete with a cosy snug for reading and lots of nooks and crannies, exactly as libraries should be. But here's what's going to make it extra special: our very own Mr Shaw is using his INCREDIBLE artistic talent to create a wall-to-wall display of the four seasons, with lots of references to literature along the way. Talk about a WOW factor. We can't wait to show our parents and friends in person when it's all complete!

Our school dogs have been busy this summer...they have now completed their three peak challenge and have made it to the top of the highest points in England, Wales and Scotland this year! Their ascent to Ben Nevis during the six weeks' holidays completed the set. They can't wait to greet all of our pupils again next week on Monday, 5th September, when our school will be bustling and busy again. We've made a few pretty big changes around the building and grounds over the summer and are looking forward to seeing what our pupils (and parents!) think...

Vacancies for cleaners

Our cleaning contractor, NIC, has several positions open for cleaners at Hady in September. Please see details below if you or someone you know would be interested - these roles are ideal for someone looking for shorter shifts of work after school hours. The posts are:

Post 1: 10 hours per week for 43 weeks. Monday to Friday, 4-6pm. Hourly rate £10.50

Post 2: 6 hours 15 minutes per week for 43 weeks. Monday to Friday, 4-5.15pm or 4:45-6pm (starting time can be negotiated between 4 and 4:45pm). Hourly rate £10.50

These contracts would start from 1st September 2022. As these posts are within a school, a DBS will be required, which the company will apply and pay for.

Our royal visitor toured our classrooms and surveyed our EYFS pupils in the hall while Pippa and Hector judged our crown competition this morning. There have been some amazing creations and our pupils have looked ever so regal!

We're ready for a festive and fun day celebrating the Queen's Jubilee. Our children are arriving in their party clothes with their crowns and flags and we are looooooving it! Check out this dapper gentleman and our long-reigning monarch 👑

More from Mount Cook this morning - what an adventure our Y4 and Y5 pupils are having! Zip wires, archery, karting - it looks like an AMAZING time!

Our Y4s and Y5s are having a smashing time at Mount Cook - yesterday they managed some archery, built land karts, crafted, had a bonfire and kept very, very busy!

Our school dogs have been very busy on their holidays - climbing Scafell Pike and exploring Ashness Bridge in Keswick and St Bees Beach in Cumbria. We hope our pupils are having a brilliant holiday as well and can't wait to hear about their adventures when we are back together in a couple of weeks!

What a wintry day to end March on! It made for a rather picturesque walk to school for our children this morning

We're supporting Ukraine today with a non-uniform fundraiser and a craft and bake sale hosted by our UKS2 pupils. We've had some fantastic donations from families across school for our sale, and we're looking forward to parents joining us after school for a snack and a stroll around the stalls. We feel lucky to live in such a supportive and cooperative community!

More Red Nose Day riotous hair at Hady!

We've held a crazy hair day to raise funds for Comic Relief - the kids have not let us down!

What a wonderful World Book Day it's been! We nabbed a few more children for photos in the library in their fantastic costumes. Thank you to all our parents who undoubtedly helped come up with some of these creations!

World Book Day continues! We nipped over to the library to witness the first book checked out since the revamp over half term and then down to EYFS to see some of the fantastic costumes.

Our parents have shared some of their photos as well - check out these creative characters! We have Hermione Granger, a school counselor from 'There's a Boy in the Girls Bathroom' by Louis Sachar, Brenda Payne (when she was still a brat) from 'Christmasaurus' by Tom Fletcher, Wally and Wendy, The Grand High Witch from 'The Witches', and Cruella De Ville. Absolutely fantastic!

World Book Day is underway at Hady! We've seen a vegetarian vampire, Anne of Green Gables, Harry Potter, Mary Poppins, and loads more! There were all sorts coming through our gates this morning, and we can't wait to get around the classes later and see who's who!

Our KS1 pupils enjoyed their visit to the National Emergency Services Museum yesterday. They learned about the police, fire and other services in conjunction with the work they have been doing on their topic 'Bright Lights, Big City'.

We are eager to reestablish a crossing patrol across Hady Lane, but unfortunately, the council's attempts to advertise on our behalf before the pandemic have not yielded results. It's Christmas Jumper Day for Save the Children and we are feeling festive here at Hady! Even the school dogs have dressed for the occasion...

Our Key Stage 1 children created a fantastic back drop for their Christmas performances during our Art Afternoon yesterday. Isn't it beautiful?

Riber class made bread this morning, using skills from Maths to calculate their recipes, skills from DT to fold create their own boxes to take their bread home in (though much of it has been gobbled up since!) and a pinch of teamwork. If only photographs had scents....mmmm, freshly baked bread...

Some of our Upper Key Stage 2 pupils have been helping Mr Kotylo and Mr Kerry with gardening this afternoon, planting bulbs in the space we are developing outside the school offices.

It's a real treat in the run up to Christmas to catch our little ones practising for their nativity...

We have a couple of vacancies at the moment and hope our friends and families will share these far and wide so we can get some smashing applicants. First, we have a vacancy for a site/facilities assistant to work with our new site supervisor, Mr Kerry, who has been making amazing progress on the condition of our site since he started with us in October. Secondly, we have created a brand new position of Reading Ambassador - someone with a passion for children's books (who has had experience working in a book shop or library) who can work with our English coordinator, classes and across school to embed an enthusiasm for and love of reading into the culture of the school. We are really excited about this new post and can't wait to see what new ideas and creativity the successful candidate will bring to the role.

It's been a colourful day here at Hady - our Y1 through Y6 children have dressed in a colour from the rainbow for Children in Need while our EYFS pupils have had a storytelling day in their pyjamas. Highlights of the day: our rainbow on the playground and some of our Y5s and Y6s reading to our Reception children😊

The perks of getting into work early - sunrise over Hady Primary

Our Upper Key Stage 2 pupils have dressed in war-era costumes as part of their Remembrance week - we've had land girls and nurses, evacuees and soldiers, and even some pilots. Riber class has been practising songs from the period all week ready for a special assembly this afternoon, which should look and sound amazing if the rehearsals and costumes are anything to go by!

Our Y5s have set off to town to participate in the 11th Hour service for Remembrance Day. Tomorrow, our Y5 and Y6 pupils will dress in costume from the war eras and perform songs from the period in a special assembly. These pupils were also invited to share photographs of their relatives who served in the armed forces, and we were very moved by the stories we heard and the history we learned.
