Yesterday, we revealed the Sports for Schools athlete that will be visiting us on the 19th of June in our school assembly!
James Shaw will be running a fun fitness circuit, followed by an inspirational assembly and Q&A session.
The children brought home a sponsorship form yesterday, so make sure to check their bags for this! There are even some fun games on the back of the forms – don’t forget to enter the Sports for Schools competition by emailing a photo of the completed sponsorship form to [email protected].
If you would like to sponsor your child, you can bring in cash with the sponsorship form, or you can donate online by following this link and searching for the school name: https://sportal.sportsforschools.org/events/landing
Hady Primary School
We are a medium-sized primary school in Derbyshire, awash with vibrant, enthusiastic and delightful

CFC visited us with THE trophy before half term and our pupils had an opportunity to be photographed with it. Exciting times!
Six years after our last inspection at Hady Primary School, Ofsted visited us on 23rd and 24th April for an ungraded Section 8 inspection, the report for which has been published today on Ofsted's website: https://reports.ofsted.gov.uk/provider/21/112665.
Following three subject Deep Dives as well as multiple meetings and copious evidence to support our approaches to behaviour, attendance, safeguarding and special educational needs, we were thrilled to come away with the best result we could hope for: Hady Primary continues to be a good, and improving, school. Our inspection did not produce a single recommendation for improvement; instead, it recommends a subsequent, graded inspection in the next couple of years to ascertain what we have believed for several years now and what Ofsted now suspects to be likely: that we are an outstanding school.
We are, unsurprisingly, thrilled with this result. It confirms the breadth and depth of the work that has gone into building our curriculum, refining our safeguarding procedures, addressing our behaviour policy and restorative practices, and so much more. It proves that our belief in inclusion is woven through every approach we take in school, both in and outside the classroom. And it credits the unwavering commitment of our staff, who consistently go beyond what is required, always with the best interests of each individual child at the heart of everything we do.
Our headteacher, Mrs Chapman, is bidding farewell to us at the end of this academic year, having joined a satisfactory school 15 years ago and built it up to good and better. Her leadership and vision have delivered Hady Primary to the place it is in now - she has driven forward a new curriculum, behaviour initiatives, an ethos of inclusion, a programme of nurture and a culture of aspiration. Even through her recovery from a serious brain injury in January, she has been determined not to take the quiet road out to her retirement but has continued to participate and support in every way she can - including playing a key role in the Ofsted inspection. She can be confident she is leaving a staff and school that she has prepared to meet future challenges with skill and gusto, and she could not be more proud of her team and her pupils.
Even with an inspection report so glowing as to not identify any areas for improvement, we know that outstanding schools can only maintain this status if they believe there is always opportunity to do more and to do better. We believe! We hope our community is as excited as we are to see what we do next!

We are thrilled to announce that we have managed to arrange a new residential for our Y6s after they were forced to return home after one night this week from their original trip with a different company. Mount Cook Adventure Centre have been brilliant in helping us organise this last-minute trip for our leavers so they don't miss out on the opportunity to spend quality time together having fun before they move onto secondary school. Slacks Travel have also stepped up yet again, helping us to organise transport (and helping us earlier this week when we had to return to school suddenly).
The children have trooped out to playtime chattering about the new plans and shouting 'WE'RE GOING TO MOUNT COOK!' Needless to say, their spirits are well and truly lifted!
After three days at Mount Cook, our Y4 adventurers will return home this afternoon. They have built and raced go carts, climbed the high ropes, played archery tag, and enjoyed campfires of their own making. If the photos are anything to go by, they've had an incredible time.
No one can deny that residentials are hard work for schools, but the pay off for the kids makes it totally worth it!
It's messages like this one from a grateful parent that put a spring in our step!
'I just wanted to send a quick email to say how brilliant last week's Enterprise Week was - it was great to see how enthusiastic the kids were and how creative the teachers were in planning it all and letting the pupils take charge. Friday afternoon was a joy, the pupils were having a blast and showing so many skills. Thank you for giving them such a great experience.'

Talk about the Christmas spirit - when we were on the verge of cancelling our annual carol service at the Crooked Spire this morning due to the winds (can you imagine walking 300 children back to school from church in gusts of over 50 miles per hour?), Slacks Travel came to our rescue. Following a quick and wishful message from our service organiser on Facebook, Richard from Slacks rang the school office at 7:30am to offer three 70-seater coaches, free of charge, to ensure our service could go ahead and all children could be transported back to school afterwards. Lead driver John kept in touch with us during the service and then brought his fleet round to meet us. It took two trips, but everyone got back to school safely - no one blew away! Father Patrick spoke to us about generosity when we were in church, and Slacks Travel set the perfect example of it for Hady Primary School pupils and staff today. THANK YOU SLACKS!
We've had a brilliant day wearing our Christmas jumpers and taking part in our Elf Fun Run - as of this lunchtime we have raised £500! The donations page on Parent Pay is still open for anyone wanting to contribute :)
What a wonderful message from a recent supply teacher:
'This is the second time I have been a supply at your job. I have been in this school on teaching supply both times and I have been greatly astonished by being here. Everyone is so friendly, approachable and overall amazing to be around. I have deeply loved both times teaching here. You are all raising and educating great kids. I am sending this email just to praise everyone here; you have built such a great community along with an incredible atmosphere. It has been a great pleasure and I really do look forward to working here again'
A lovely message from PCSO Suzanne Gouldsbrough, who visited our school yesterday to speak with classes:
'Today's visit was to talk to the children about Stranger Danger and Road Safety. The children we so polite, friendly and already knew the answers to the questions. Although the children were brilliant and knew the answers, it is always good to refresh our memories.'

We've had a fabulous Sports Day, with all of our children, from Nursery to Y6, participating in a packed day of events. The weather has been wonderful, the kids enthusiastic (and super speedy!), and our parents the best cheerleaders we could hope for.
Special thanks to our PTA for hosting refreshments and a raffle and making a last minute emergency run to get a new microphone when the one we had ready met with a terrible accident just as the day began. Having such fantastic parent volunteers makes these events that much more special - thank you!
WE ARE CLOSED TODAY. A message has gone out to parents on Parent Hub. We will see everyone back in school on Monday.
What a fantastic World Book Day 2023 we have had! This afternoon our Y6s and Reading Ambassadors read together with our younger pupils, and it was just lovely to watch them giggle and gape and gasp and share their love of reading with each other.
Oooo, there's been a transformation at Hady today, ready to surprise our pupils when they're back with us Monday...

With the recent tragedy in Solihull, the Derbyshire Fire & Rescue Service have asked us to share the following information posters with our community, which are adapted for different ages.
Have you heard the news that we have moved our two smaller libraries into one big, fantastic space in our Kinder Scout classroom? The space is going to be AMAZING when it is done, complete with a cosy snug for reading and lots of nooks and crannies, exactly as libraries should be. But here's what's going to make it extra special: our very own Mr Shaw is using his INCREDIBLE artistic talent to create a wall-to-wall display of the four seasons, with lots of references to literature along the way. Talk about a WOW factor. We can't wait to show our parents and friends in person when it's all complete!
Our school dogs have been busy this summer...they have now completed their three peak challenge and have made it to the top of the highest points in England, Wales and Scotland this year! Their ascent to Ben Nevis during the six weeks' holidays completed the set. They can't wait to greet all of our pupils again next week on Monday, 5th September, when our school will be bustling and busy again. We've made a few pretty big changes around the building and grounds over the summer and are looking forward to seeing what our pupils (and parents!) think...
