Did you know my tutoring business is 30 years old next month?
I can't believe it to be honest.
There have been many mistakes along the way. Lessons that I've had to learn about the business side of things.
My lesson plans may have adapted over the years, but the actual teaching side hasn't.
I still provide a friendly, but professional, service to my clients.
Over the years they tell me how much confidence their child has gained since working with me.
From a child scared to put their hand up to answer questions, to a child that can put their hand up and answer confidently.
They gain this skill by not being overwhelmed in their lessons. We break down scary topics into manageable chunks that can be understood in that very lesson.
Drop me a message, if you would like to chat and work with me 1 on 1 to get your child's personalised plan to help them this new school year.
Image: This was before I started working 100% online. Everyone's folder with work that needed marking. That is one job I do not miss.

Choosing help for your child should feel like a sensible next step, not a huge leap.
Parents often spend quite a while thinking about tutoring before they ever ask. That is understandable. You want to make the right decision, not add pressure and not commit to something that does not feel right for your child.
That is why the tone of support matters so much. Children need help that feels safe, personal and calm, and parents need reassurance that they are making a thoughtful choice. It is not about rushing into anything. It is about knowing that support is
there when it is needed.
At Janie’s Online Tutoring Academy, support is one-to-one, online and designed to help children feel more confident, more comfortable asking questions and more secure in their learning. With a full DBS check and 30 years of tutoring experience, I aim to offer support that feels approachable, trustworthy and genuinely helpful. If you would like to chat about what your child may need, feel free to message through Messenger.

Confidence often grows when understanding grows.
Children can become very hard on themselves when they do not understand something straight away. They may assume everyone else finds it easy, or decide they are simply not good at that subject. Once that thought sets in, confidence can drop quickly.
The encouraging thing is that confidence is not always rebuilt
through praise alone. Very often, it starts coming back when a child genuinely begins to understand what they are doing. When things make more sense, they feel safer to try, safer to ask and safer to keep going.
That is why steady, one-to-one support can matter so much. At Janie’s Online Tutoring Academy, the focus is on clear explanations, patient teaching and helping children feel comfortable enough to ask anything they need. With 30 years of tutoring experience, I know that confidence and understanding often grow side by side. If your child seems bright but unsure of themselves, you are very welcome to message through Messenger and ask about support.

How tutoring works should feel clear, not mysterious.
For many parents, one of the biggest hesitations is simply not
knowing what tutoring will actually be like. Will it feel awkward? Will their child feel comfortable? Will it just be more school after school? Those are sensible questions to have.
Good tutoring should not feel like added pressure. It should feel like clear, steady support that helps a child understand more, worry less and build confidence over time. One-to-one lessons allow space for questions, recap, encouragement and teaching that suits the individual child rather than the whole class.
At Janie’s Online Tutoring Academy, lessons take place on Zoom in one-hour weekly sessions and are always one-to-one. Children are encouraged to ask questions freely and support is adapted to their age, subject and learning needs. I also hold a full DBS check, which gives parents added reassurance. If you’d like to ask about how lessons work or whether tutoring might suit your child, feel free to message through Messenger.

Some children learn best when everything feels a little calmer.
Busy classrooms work well for many children, but not all children find them easy. Some need more time to process, more room to ask questions or simply a quieter atmosphere where they do not feel they have to keep up with everyone else.
When a child is calmer, they often take in far more. They can concentrate on the work itself instead of worrying about getting something wrong or falling behind. That calmer feeling can be just as important as the subject support, especially for children whose confidence has taken a knock.
That is part of what one-to-one tutoring can offer. At Janie’s Online Tutoring Academy, lessons are warm, personal and shaped around the child’s pace and needs. Support is available for Year 1 to Year 11 across the UK, with primary maths and English, and secondary maths, English, history, geography, biology, chemistry and physics. If your child would benefit from a calmer approach to learning, you are very welcome to message through Messenger.
