This was my statement and question for last night’s meeting on hook park and a tentative reply from Andreas Kirsch ( leader of the council)
The proposed Hook Park development in Chessington poses a significant threat to our environment the local plan in September included 2300 in hook park and 1900 in golf club. ( this plan was pushed back and not released)
Clearing this Green Belt land would lead to devastating deforestation, destroying habitats and disrupting local ecosystems.
This isn't just about losing trees; it's about the ripple effect on wildlife, soil quality, and even climate change. Deforestation contributes to increased carbon emissions, and with the climate crisis worsening, we can't afford to sacrifice our green spaces.
The long-term consequences far outweigh any short-term gains. Preserving Hook Park's natural beauty and biodiversity is crucial for future generations.
Isn't it time we prioritize Chessington. For transparency sake prior to election can we please see the local plan before the election so that all residents can make a clear decision about who they feel really can represent them.
Answer : Andreas Kirsch ( leader of the council and Cllr for Chessington South and Malden Rushett said ‘ there is no plan’ , followed by waffling ‘ there is a draft but not ready’ followed by ‘ it will be issued by June ‘ what is it really Andreas’s ?
WHAT WE KNOW :
There is a draft Local Plan and they are withholding it till after the local elections. And the LibDems are to blame for not having an official Local Plan in place already, leaving us without a strong defence against unscrupulous developers.
