Welcome back to school and a special welcome to all new children and families, we are delighted that you have joined our wonderful CKIS family! We hope that you have all had a lovely Summer break, managing to reset and re-charge your batteries and are ready for the busy term ahead!

A big thank you to one of our wonderful parents who kindly prepared this balloon arch for our children to take photos in front of this morning to celebrate their first day back in school!

Forest School sessions for pre-school aged children!

In September, we are launching a series of Forest School sessions designed for 2, 3 and 4 year old children. If you love getting outside with your little ones in all weathers and seasons, come and join our community to:

- experience our relaxed child-led approach to learning about our natural world
- connect with nature and boost wellbeing
- encourage your child to develop independence, confidence and self-esteem
- take part in a range of play activities such as den building, woodland crafts, creating tasty morsels in the mud kitchen, swinging in a hammock, exploring nature, stories, and much more
- enjoy a drink and a snack around a camp fire
- make new friends

The sessions will be held each Monday morning starting in mid September 2025 through to the beginning of December 2025. A taster session is available on Monday 14th July and if you quote the word 'adventure' when booking, you can book a place on this taster session for free!

Reception starters in September 2025 - spaces available!

Due to the falling birth rates in England and Wales, leading to a decline in the number of children starting school, we do still have a small number of spaces available in our Reception year group starting in September 2025.

Forest School!

We are so lucky at CKIS to have our very own Forest School! The children get weekly sessions with Mrs Holburn (our qualified Forest School practitioner), taking part in activities linked to our curriculum and the season in which they take place.

The children look forward to their Forest School sessions every week - they love exploring the environment and challenging themselves to be independent whilst developing positive relationships with their peers and the natural world!

We are hosting an event for the Odyssey Teaching School Hub next Tuesday (4th March) at 9.00am - please do come along if you would like to find out more about training to teach!

Did you know that Charlton Kings Infants' School has an attached Kindergarten?

From the age of 3, children are able to attend our Kindergarten. We provide a warm, welcoming atmosphere where the children are valued and listened to. We believe that each child has a unique view of the world and we provide a personalised learning experience.

We enjoy a very close liaison with the Reception team at the school; we share the school site and participate in most school activities and events. For the children at the Kindergarten who go on to get places at the Infants’ School, we join with the Reception team to enhance their transition.

Harvest Celebrations!

This week the children are participating in Harvest celebrations by performing songs and poetry to their families in two of our local churches.

We have also been showing love to our community by collecting donations for Cheltenham Food Bank. Some of our Year 2 pupils really enjoyed helping load the large amount of donations to the van this afternoon!

We love reading!

We were delighted that during our May 2024 inspection, Ofsted noticed our commitment to developing our children's love of reading. They said:

"The school’s work to develop each child as a reader is noteworthy. The ‘dream reads’ that the school has carefully selected mean that pupils read widely... Pupils quickly become confident and fluent readers."
