During last year's ink and bleach workshop, our Art & Design trainees explored a variety of mark-making techniques using different tools and materials. By experimenting with negative space, highlights, tonal variation, layering, and colour, they discovered how bleach can be used to lift ink and create stunning detail.

They produced a series of striking architectural studies inspired by a trip to Gloucester Cathedral, showcasing the techniques and materials explored throughout the workshop.

As part of their Art & Design teacher training year, trainees benefit from the expertise of experienced colleagues from schools across Gloucestershire. They took part in a Ceramics Skillshare Workshop at Maidenhill School, where they explored how to plan, organise and teach ceramics lessons.

During the session, trainees received practical hints, tips and lesson ideas suitable for a range of age groups, as well as the opportunity to develop their own skills and put their learning into practice.

That’s a wrap for another successful year!

Our End of Year Celebration was a wonderful opportunity to recognise and celebrate everything our incredible trainees have achieved this year. Trainees, Subject Leads, Lead Mentors and GITEP Partnership Board members came together to enjoy afternoon tea and celebrate the occasion, with trainees receiving certificates of achievement and their very own GITEP mugs.

Congratulations to all of our trainees on everything they have accomplished this year. We wish those taking up their first teaching posts in September the very best of luck, and we look forward to welcoming back our trainees on the flexible part-time route in the new academic year.

📚☀️ Celebrating Our Fantastic Trainees! ☀️📚

We have had a fabulous final two days of Centre Professional Studies with our current cohort, focusing on ensuring our trainees are fully ECT ready as they prepare for the next exciting stage of their teaching careers.

Over the two days, sessions explored:
✅ Support and professional development during your first two years as an Early Career Teacher
✅ Thriving, not surviving – prioritising wellbeing as an ECT and throughout your teaching journey
✅ A highly interactive workshop on Establishing Your Classroom Climate

We were also delighted to welcome Jazz Howell Smith, who delivered an insightful session on completing a Master's degree, and Helen Wood, Headteacher at The High School Leckhampton, who led a thought-provoking discussion on the opportunities and challenges facing education over the next five years.

A huge thank you to all our trainees for your enthusiasm, engagement, and professionalism throughout the sessions—especially in the heat! 🥵 Your commitment to learning and development has been inspiring, and we are incredibly proud of all you have achieved.

We wish you every success as you embark on your ECT journey and look forward to seeing the positive impact you will make in schools and communities.

🎨✨ Creativity, collaboration and hands-on learning in action! ✨🎨

GITEP Art trainees took the lead, delivering inspiring peer-teach workshops as part of their subject pathway sessions.

Between them, the trainees explored a diverse range of creative techniques including bold graffiti-style lettering, innovative cardboard sculpture construction and crocheting methods within art practice.

These hands-on sessions provided valuable opportunities for trainees to develop their subject knowledge, share practical skills, and experience different approaches to teaching and learning in the art classroom.

If you're passionate about art, creativity and inspiring the next generation of young artists, our Art & Design Teacher Training course could be the perfect next step for you.

Over the past two weeks, we have welcomed the newest cohort of GITEP trainees to their induction sessions. These sessions provided a fantastic opportunity for everyone to get to know each other, build connections and start preparing for their GITEP training journey.

Our trainees have jumped straight in with enthusiasm and creativity – taking part in thought-provoking card-sorting activities and coming up with insightful questions for our current trainees. It's been inspiring to see such energy and curiosity right from the start!

A special thank you to Dominic Burke, headteacher at Balcarras School and Chair of the GITEP Board, for taking the time to say hello and share insights into teaching as a profession.
