🎨✨ Creativity, collaboration and hands-on learning in action! ✨🎨

GITEP Art trainees took the lead, delivering inspiring peer-teach workshops as part of their subject pathway sessions.

Between them, the trainees explored a diverse range of creative techniques including bold graffiti-style lettering, innovative cardboard sculpture construction and crocheting methods within art practice.

These hands-on sessions provided valuable opportunities for trainees to develop their subject knowledge, share practical skills, and experience different approaches to teaching and learning in the art classroom.

If you're passionate about art, creativity and inspiring the next generation of young artists, our Art & Design Teacher Training course could be the perfect next step for you.

Over the past two weeks, we have welcomed the newest cohort of GITEP trainees to their induction sessions. These sessions provided a fantastic opportunity for everyone to get to know each other, build connections and start preparing for their GITEP training journey.

Our trainees have jumped straight in with enthusiasm and creativity – taking part in thought-provoking card-sorting activities and coming up with insightful questions for our current trainees. It's been inspiring to see such energy and curiosity right from the start!

A special thank you to Dominic Burke, headteacher at Balcarras School and Chair of the GITEP Board, for taking the time to say hello and share insights into teaching as a profession.

Creative Textiles in Action at Cheltenham Bournside School!

GITEP Art trainee teachers recently took part in an inspiring textiles workshop at Cheltenham Bournside School.

The session explored how textile techniques can be taught and adapted across the key stages, giving trainees practical ideas and creative approaches to take into their own classrooms.

Using a wide range of materials and processes - including collage, fabric, wax, stitching and mixed media - trainees experimented with layering, texture and composition to create unique textile artworks.

It was a fantastic opportunity to develop subject knowledge, build confidence, and experience hands-on creative practice in a supportive environment.

🎶✨ Inside Our Music Teacher Training Programme ✨🎶

Our music trainees recently got hands-on with a range of instruments—including violin, clarinet, and flute—building confidence in setting up, tuning, and playing techniques. 🎻🎶

They explored basic techniques and considered how each instrument works across different keys and ranges, gaining valuable insight into how to create balanced and effective ensemble arrangements.

A highlight of the session was one of our talented trainees shared her expertise on the flute, delivering a mini masterclass! 👏

Our geography trainees gained hands-on experience during a residential field trip to South Wales with Year 10 students from Pate’s.

In glorious sunshine, they supported students in collecting coastal data at Porthcawl, stayed at the innovative low-carbon Margam Discovery Centre, and explored Cardiff to assess the impact of the Cardiff Bay regeneration project.

Experiences like this are a vital part of the GITEP Geography Teacher Training programme, equipping trainees with the skills and confidence to lead inspiring field trips of their own.

If you’re passionate about geography and want to inspire the next generation, find out more about training to teach with GITEP. Bursaries of £5,000 are available.

Adaptive Teaching in Art & Design

Our GITEP Art trainees have been diving deep into adaptive teaching, collaborating to design engaging Year 9 lessons that make creativity accessible to every learner.

From stunning wax resist stained glass designs to beautifully detailed monochrome Green Man drawings, inspired by a visit to Gloucester Cathedral, trainees explored how to:
âś… Scaffold learning effectively
âś… Standardise lesson structure
âś… Stretch and challenge higher-ability students
âś… Support all learners with clear guidance

Trainees found the experience invaluable—especially creating scaffolded worksheets that clearly present objectives, key vocabulary, instructions, and WAGOLLs (What A Good One Looks Like).

🌍A glimpse into life on our Modern Languages teacher training course….
We were delighted to receive a wonderful update from our Modern Languages team this week!

"We had a fantastic subject pathway session with Subject Lead, Julie, who led a really practical and useful session on using foreign language film at KS3 to promote cultural understanding.

This was followed by trainees teaching and learning from each other about the imperfect subjunctive, target language classroom instructions, French verbs and planning using Excel.

We shared resources like songs to learn grammar and practice classroom commands and practiced rolling our Rs for Spanish words, leading to hilarious results!

It really highlighted to us how much of a community we have become and how much we can learn from each other."

👉If you’re passionate about languages and want to train in a supportive, dynamic environment, our Modern Languages programme could be the perfect fit.

As part of their bespoke Subject Curriculum, our Science trainees visited Slimbridge Wetland Centre to see first-hand how off-site visits can enrich pupils’ learning and develop their skills.

The visit provided trainees with the opportunity to understand some of the practical considerations of organising trips including planning activities, risk assessments, health and safety, and managing timings for the day – all key elements of a teacher’s wider professional duties.

It was also a fantastic opportunity to explore the centre, design pupil-focused learning activities and observe the wildlife (the ducklings were a clear highlight! 🦆)

đź’ˇ Substantial training bursaries available for Science trainees:
➡️ Chemistry £29,000
➡️ Physics £29,000
➡️ Biology £5,000
