🌱⚡ Bringing Learning to Life Through Reading! ⚡🌱

Today Owl class completed a reading comprehension focused on green energy, building on the knowledge and experiences gained during our recent visit to a solar farm. ☀️🔋

By making real-world connections between their reading and what they observed on the trip last week, pupils were able to deepen their understanding of renewable energy, sustainability and the positive impact green technologies can have on our future.

The discussion was full of thoughtful ideas, insightful questions and impressive use of subject-specific vocabulary. Pupils confidently linked their learning across the curriculum, demonstrating curiosity and a growing awareness of environmental responsibility.

Experiences such as these help children to see the purpose behind their learning, enriching the curriculum and ensuring knowledge is meaningful, memorable and connected to the wider world.

🌟 Money Sense in Action! 🌟

Our Owl Class have been taking part in the fantastic NatWest Thrive Money Sense sessions, developing valuable financial skills for the future.

As part of their learning, the children had great fun creating and managing their own virtual smoothie store! They explored what it takes to run a successful business, making decisions about products, pricing, costs and profits while working together as a team.

It was wonderful to see their creativity, problem-solving and entrepreneurial skills shining through as they learned about managing money in a practical and engaging way. Well done, everyone, for your enthusiasm and excellent ideas!

🌞⚡ Owl Class Visit Westerfield Solar Farm ⚡🌞

Owl Class recently had the fantastic opportunity to visit Westerfield Solar Farm as part of an energy provider scheme designed to educate young people about alternative sources of energy.

During the visit, the children explored the impressive site, home to more than 50,000 solar panels, and learnt how the panels are connected together to generate electricity. They discovered the basics of voltage, direct and alternating currents, and even how electricity is created through the movement of electrons between silicon sheets.

One of the highlights of the day was learning about the farm's commitment to biodiversity and wildlife conservation. The children were excited to spot a rabbit, a hare, seven deer and two buzzards, as well as investigate a wide variety of insects and other creatures living in the hedgerows surrounding the solar panels.

They also learnt how the site is carefully managed to support wildlife, with specially designed fencing that keeps people out while allowing smaller animals to move freely, and how sheep are used to graze the land and keep the grass at a manageable height.

It was a fascinating and informative trip that brought science, sustainability and nature together. The children were amazed to learn that the electricity generated at Westerfield Solar Farm feeds into the National Grid and produces enough power to supply the whole of Burford for a year!

🌿🦔 Forest School Fun for Hedgehog Class! 🦔🌿

This week in Forest School, Hedgehog Class got creative making their very own Green Men. Using clay as a base, the children carefully decorated their creations with a variety of natural treasures they discovered around the woodland, including leaves, twigs, seeds, moss, and bark.

The children showed fantastic imagination and teamwork as they explored the natural environment, selecting materials and designing unique Green Men faces. It was wonderful to see their creativity flourish while developing their connection with nature.

Well done, Hedgehog Class, for your beautiful woodland creations! 🌳🍃😊

We have had a wonderful start to the new school year, and our breakfast club has been buzzing with activity! 🌟

Children enjoyed settling into our new dedicated breakfast club space this morning, sharing breakfast, chatting with friends and exploring a range of creative activities.

The space provides a warm and nurturing start to the day, helping children feel settled, connected and ready for learning.

What a lovely way to begin the school year! 🎨🍓📚✨
