How are you spending your winter holidays? 🤸
While we are all unwinding over the festive period, engaging in fun, educational activities is a great way to keep your child’s brain and body active so that they come back to school energised and ready to learn.
What’s the best way to do this? Well, all you need is LOVE…
🎾Leisure activities: participate in hobbies together such as cooking, swimming, or arts and crafts.
🌳 Outdoors: get out in the open, visit your local park or go on a nature walk.
🏛️ Visits: attend museums, galleries, the library or even Colchester Zoo!
🖥️ Educational games: practice a language on Duolingo or play a BBC Bitesize game.

Did you know we have a House system?
At Tyrrells, children are placed into one of four Houses when they join in Reception and they remain in that House for their entire school journey. This not only helps our pupils learn teamwork skills, but it gives them a sense of belonging and helps them develop an understanding of citizenship.
The Houses are:
🔵 Curie House
🟡 Hillary House
🔴 Marconi House
🟢 Shakespeare House

How can you have fun, build knowledge and stave off boredom as a family this summer?
🔷Go back in time and visit the historical and cultural sites in Essex such as Stow Maries Great War Aerodome, Stansted Mountfitchet or Hedingham!
🔷Cook up a storm. Baking and cooking can be fun activities that result in a reward for your child’s hard work. Why not try a family workshop or cookery school?

Did you know our pupils performed at The O2 arena in London?
Earlier this year, a number of pupils in Years 4, 5 and 6 sang at the Young Voices concert. Our group was among the 8,500 children who performed, giving them an unforgettable experience.
What are some of your child’s favourite memories from this year?

Our House Captains have led their own fundraising events this year and have raised a staggering combined total of £573 for their chosen charities. ⭐
Our Charity Shield was won by Shakespeare House with an impressive £242 raised for the Hopefield Animal Sanctuary & Visitor Centre.
A huge well done to our Hillary House for raising £167 for Stand Up To Cancer, Curie House for raising £89 for Dogs Trust and Marconi House for raising £79 for the RSPCA (England & Wales). This achievement epitomises our school values and demonstrates how much our children care about the world around them.

A huge thank you to everyone who has supported the WOW (Living Streets - Walk to School Challenge) this year. 👏
Our end of year statistics from Living Streets shows that Tyrrells has recorded 35,694 active trips, of which 21,739 were walking all the way trips. This equates to 56% walking trips which is a 23% increase from our baseline. Car trips have decreased by 74% as well which is a fantastic achievement.
We look forward to trying to improve on this record next year! 🚶
