Today we said a sad farewell to our brilliant Site Supervisor Mr Heard.

Lofty has worked for close to 15 years on our site, fixing everything from broken toilet doors, dyno rodding our terrible sewerage system, maintaining pupil lockers, and everything else in between.

We will miss him terribly, he's been such a brilliant member of our staff team and he knows our site inside out!

Please come back and have a cup of tea with us soon, 10.30am in the staff room won't be the same without you 😢

Today, we said a very fond farewell to our CEO, Gavin Ball, as he begins a long, happy and well-deserved retirement.

Gavin spent his final morning with us watching our fantastic Year 6 play before taking one last tour around Fairlands. In true Fairlands tradition, he was met with a heartfelt guard of honour from our children and staff – a fitting send-off for someone who has dedicated so much to the young people and families of the Wessex community.

Gavin, thank you for your unwavering commitment, leadership and support over the years. The positive impact you have had on so many children's lives will be felt for years to come, and we are grateful for all your hard work.

We wish you every happiness, good health and many exciting adventures in your retirement. Please don't be a stranger – we'll be expecting you back to celebrate with us when Fairlands achieves its ambition of becoming the best middle school in England!

On Wednesday, our school proudly celebrated its 50th birthday with a special event that brought together past and present members of the school community.

Previous pupils and former members of staff were invited to join the celebrations, providing a wonderful opportunity to reconnect, share memories, and reflect on five decades of the school's history.

Guests enjoyed speeches from Rebecca Bennett, the current Headteacher, as well as two former Headteachers, Mr Elmy and Mr Parkin. All of our speakers spoke about the school's journey, achievements, and the many people who have helped shape its success over the past 50 years.

The celebration highlighted the strong sense of community that has always been at the heart of the school, as generations came together to celebrate a shared history and look forward to an exciting future.

A huge thank you to Alan from the RNLI for taking the time to visit our school and speak to our pupils about the importance of water safety.

With the current heat wave, it was the perfect opportunity to remind everyone how important it is to stay safe around the water. Alan shared valuable advice on how to enjoy the water responsibly, recognise potential dangers, and make safe choices to help keep ourselves and others safe.

We are very grateful for this informative and engaging session. Thank you, Alan, for helping our pupils learn these important life-saving messages! 🌊☀️💙
