Student midwives can have a positive influence on how families experience their care when a baby dies. No level of care can take away the pain families feel, but high quality care can help families process their grief and begin to learn to live without their much loved baby.
It is estimated in the UK that one in four pregnancies end in miscarriage, 5,000 wanted pregnancies are terminated for medical reasons every year, and 13 babies are stillborn or die shortly after birth every day.
It is our job alongside our colleagues to support bereaved parents, firstly by listening; to understand their perspective and their needs, and then by supporting and empowering families to make the decisions that are right for them.

Join us this Wednesday as we welcome FGM survivor, author and educator, and the team at to the Medway campus.
The act of female ge***al mutilation is illegal in the UK yet it is estimated that 65,000 girls aged 13 and under are at risk of this hidden abuse (yes FGM is abuse!) today.
As future healthcare professionals we must learn and educate, know how to support and advocate, and stand up against this horrific violation of human rights!

It's Neurodiversity Celebration Week 🎉🎉
Student midwives play a key role in the experience of families within maternity.
To have an awareness of Neurodiversity enables us to offer more tailored support to those we care for and better understand how to advocate for and support families during their maternity continuum!
