People will not stop killing each other until they believe in the importance of life more than they believe in any religion or ideology. When they go to extremes, they consider their beliefs to be more important than life itself. Only when life is valued above all else will the killing stop.
The fact is that two god-believing religions are behind the senseless war currently in the Middle East. The adherents of these religions justify their killing of people by putting God before life. They consider their respective faiths worth fighting for unto death. We must ask: Would they still be fighting each other if they did not believe in the existence of God more than anything else? I think not. Their belief in God drives them to take life rather than preserve it, since god-belief is more important to them than life-belief. In the name of God, these demean people, and this justifies killing those not conforming to their beliefs. Some of them even chant ‘god is great’ when killing unbelievers. God is indistinguishable from Satan when it is used to justify such murders.
Life-belief puts religion in its place. It is about the truth of life and living, and the truth lies in scientific endeavour which requires discipline and dedication to pursue it. Truth does not lie in ancient documents that belong to the past and offer nothing for the future of humanity except the unending strife caused by uncritical belief in the nonsense containing in them.
Life-belief is therefore about what science tells us about life. To me, the story that science gives us is far more interesting and convincing than any of the religious stories about life and how it came to be. The science of biology tells us that we all began life as a tiny fertilised cell in our mother’s womb. This tiny cell had within it all the knowledge it needed to grow and develop into what we have become as human beings. It produced all the millions of cells that work together to make what we are. This scientific knowledge helps us to believe in life because it shows us how marvellous and astonishingly complex life is.
Mysteries still abound about the universe but only science gives us any hope of understanding the universe better. Religions and ideologies stand in the way of science when they discourage scientific endeavour which alone gives us hope for the future. It is time for the open-mindedness and humanity of science to come to the fore and only life-belief can ensure this, as is shown in my book Life-Belief: A Faith for All: https://www.amazon.co.uk/Life-Belief-Alistair-J-Sinclair-Ph-D/dp/1739693701

The book gives a comprehensive view of time from innumerable points of view. It brings together three distinct ‘books’ published separately by me. They are all about time more or less but are here revised and recast differently from the original publications. This is part of my personal quest to understand what philosophy and science are telling us about time. It contains also my theories about the nature of time and its place in the universe.
Included is my Inverted Universe Theory (IUT) which asks questions such as why do we see in all directions the universe moving away from us? Are we looking into the past out there while the future lies behind us, namely, deep inside ourselves in inner space? This theory has attracted interest from all over the world in the academia.edu version of this theory.

Also included is my Spatial Expansion Theory of Time (SETT) which explains time in terms of spatial expansion. In other words, time is the spatial expansion of the universe. The book ends with an account of Shakespeare’s view of time and his universalist views that influence his plays. I also defend Shakespeare against the false accusations that someone else must have written his plays.

Book I, entitled Time for Itself, is my general survey of what time means to us in the present, what it has meant to us in the past, and what it means to philosophers and scientists. It is therefore preliminary to the personal theories outlined in Book Two.

Book II Time for the Universe is quite short and begins in Part One with my bizarre Inverted Universe Theory (IUT) which is thought provoking if nothing else. An earlier version of it was published on the website of academia.edu. It asks questions such as why do we see in all directions the universe moving away from us? Are we looking into the past out there while the future lies behind us, namely, deep inside ourselves in inner space? Part Two is about the Spatial Expansion Theory of Time (SETT). The theory explains time in terms of spatial expansion. In other words, time is the spatial expansion of the universe.

Book III is a revised version of my e-book Shakespeare on Time about Shakespeare’s preoccupation with time throughout his writings and especially in his sonnets and poems. It includes quotations from his writings and also a categorising of the sonnets in which time features. It defends Shakespeare against the false accusations that someone else must have written his plays.
