🌟 What a fantastic first full week! 🌟

The nursery has been buzzing with excitement as the children have settled into their routines, explored the environment and formed new friendships. We’ve enjoyed lots of play and discovery, spent time outdoors caring for our plants, visited the school for lunch and PE, and shared songs, stories and rhymes at Bookbug.

The children also became brilliant little bakers, making delicious fairy cakes ready for today’s launch of our Community Café! 🧁☕ It was the perfect way to finish such a busy week, and we loved welcoming families and members of our community into the nursery for a treat and a friendly chat.

A huge thank you to everyone who joined us and helped make our first café so special. We’re incredibly proud of how well all our children have embraced their first full week — what an amazing start to the new nursery year! 💙

🔎 RESEARCH IN ACTION

Settling In & Relationships
Issue 01 | Relationships are the Foundation of Learning

On Monday, we explored the importance of relationships in the early years – and how children learn best when they feel safe, secure, valued and connected.

But what does that actually look like in practice?

At Springholm Nursery, relationships aren't an activity we plan. They are woven through the whole nursery day. 💙

They are found in the quiet moments when a practitioner sits alongside a child and follows their interests. In shared discoveries that bring children and adults together. In friendships developing through play. In children learning to cooperate, communicate and enjoy experiences alongside one another.

They are there when we read together, investigate together, care for our environment together – and when a trusted adult is simply close by as a child develops the confidence to explore for themselves.

These everyday interactions matter.

Warm, responsive relationships give children the secure base they need to explore, take risks in their learning, communicate their ideas, build friendships and develop an increasing sense of confidence and belonging.

📸 This is our research in action:
Relationships aren't something separate from learning at Springholm – they are the foundation from which learning grows.

📚 Springholm Nursery Research Series 2026–2027
Issue 01 | Settling In & Relationships

Welcome to the first issue of our Research Series.
Throughout the year, we'll be sharing the research behind our practice, helping families understand not only what children experience at Springholm Nursery, but why those experiences matter.

As we begin a new academic year, our focus is on something we believe sits at the heart of everything we do—relationships.

Research tells us that children don't need to be "ready to learn" before they come to nursery. Instead, it is through warm, trusting and responsive relationships that children develop the confidence to explore, play, communicate and thrive.

Settling into nursery is different for every child. Some children walk through the door ready to explore, whilst others need a little more time to build trust and feel secure. Both are completely normal.

At Springholm Nursery, we know that meaningful relationships with children and families provide the foundation for everything that follows. By taking time to get to know every child as an individual, listening to their ideas and working in partnership with families, we create an environment where children feel safe, valued and ready to learn.

Over the coming weeks, we'll continue exploring the research behind relationships and show you how these principles come to life through the everyday experiences of our children.
💙 Because when children feel they belong, they don't just settle—they flourish.

Join us on Wednesday as we bring this research into practice.

WELCOME BACK! 💙

As we begin a new academic year at Springholm Nursery, we would like to welcome our children and families back—and introduce the range of free events we offer to the wider community.

Throughout the year, families can join us for Toddler Tuesday, fortnightly STEM Adventures, weekly and monthly Bookbug sessions, The Play Hub and our monthly Community Café. We’ll also share special celebrations, exhibitions and other one-off community invitations.

Springholm Nursery is a charitable, not-for-profit setting, led by a skilled and experienced team. This means that any money we receive is reinvested into the nursery, helping us provide high-quality resources and experiences for our children while continuing to offer free events that support local children, families and the wider community.

You do not need to attend Springholm Nursery to join our community events—we would love to welcome familiar faces and new families alike.
