Year 5 and 6 had a great session during Bring Your Spade to School Day too.

Year 1 and 2 had their Bring Your Spade to School Day next and had a fantastic time learning outside and helping our world's ecosystem too.

Yesterday, was Bring Your Spade to School Day at Wreay C of E Primary School which also coincided with world Earth Day 2026. World Earth Day is a day when environmental protection, raise awareness about issues like climate change and pollution, and encourage action to safeguard the planet.

At Wreay our children are keen courageous advocates, with the aim of making our school grounds an environment which encourages pollinators and helps them to thrive and helps to safeguard our planet's ecosystem. During our Bring Your Spade to School Day this year, the children all helped to get our school grounds ready for this year's planting. They all planted their own pea plants, with seeds kept from last years pea plants and learnt more about the life cycle of plants and how best to w**d and care for plants.

The children were amazed to see that the compost - which came from last year's w**ding - was now ready to use in our gardens this year. Our school of budding young gardeners also learnt a lot about sustainability during the day and are hoping to retain the Gold Award, achieved last year, in this year's Cumbria in Bloom Schools competition.

Our day began with Year 3 and 4 outside for their session. The children had a fantastic time learning outside and ended their session with a special song, written by Mr Dodds, especially for the occasion. We were very lucky to have the support of an expert gardener, from the local community, join us for the day too.

On Friday 13th February, many of our Key Stage 2 pupils travelled to the Manchester CoOp Live Arena to take part in this year’s Young voices concert – celebrating 30 years of Young Voices Concerts at key venues across England. It was a very long day – setting off at 9.30 am in the morning and returning back to school just after midnight but the children were remarkable and performed brilliantly. There were 7,293 children in the choir that day – who all spent time rehearsing together, led by the amazing Young Voices conductors and vocalists. They then performed together for an arena full of parents and family members at 7.30 pm.

There was a real awe and wonder moment for our pupils when they entered the arena – they couldn’t believe how huge it actually was! The day ran like clockwork and the organisation at the arena was excellent throughout.

Our children and staff sang, danced and thoroughly enjoyed themselves, from start to finish. There was even a section for parents and families to get up and join in the singing and dancing in the arena too – making it was so much fun and memorable for everyone!

The children had special small torches, which lit up dark arena like thousands of tiny stars, which added to the concert being quite a magical experience for all who attended. Attending Young Voices 2026 was so special; it will certainly be a memory that will last a lifetime. It was really heart-warming to see our pupils performing so well and having such a fantastic time together. They were all impeccably well behaved throughout the whole day and were a real credit to both the school and their families. A totally amazing experience for all!

Year 3 and 4 have brought in some super Stone Age projects too and have enjoyed presenting them in front of their class too. Well done children - fantastic work. We're really proud of you all too.

Year 5 and 6 have brought in some fabulous Ancient Greek projects and have thoroughly enjoyed presenting them in class. Well done children - what great work - we're super proud of you all.

We are extremely pleased to announce that Wreay C of E Primary School has been awarded a Gold Medal award, in the Cumbria in Bloom Schools Competition 2025.

All our pupils worked hard in order to achieve this success however a special mention needs to go out to our school Gardening Club, who put in a tremendous effort under the guidance of Mr. Dodds and Pat Geddes (our school and village gardening experts) who ran the club for the children.

Well done everyone - we're super proud of you all!
