There is something about land.

Not just the view.

Not just the trees, the stones, the birdsong or the weather rolling across the hills.

It is what happens when we stop rushing through it.

Heart of the Wild has been gifted a beautiful piece of land at Anam Cara in the Scottish Highlands, and we are learning how to care for it while allowing it to become more alive.

Woodland is being nurtured.

Habitats are being restored.

Spaces are being created for ceremony, healing, learning and quiet contemplation.

There are plans for gardens, a wildlife pond, a labyrinth, more accommodation and spaces where people can gather together.

But we don’t want to simply develop the land.

We want to listen to it.

To work with it.

To allow nature to have a voice in what comes next.

Because rewilding isn’t only about restoring landscapes.

Perhaps it is also about remembering that we belong here.

If you have felt something stir when you encounter Freya, you do not have to explain it away.

You do not need to prove that you are worthy of walking with her. You do not need to know every story, every rune or every detail of Norse mythology. You do not need to have a perfect spiritual practice.

You can begin simply by paying attention.

Notice what happens when you speak her name. Notice what you are being asked to look at in your own life. Notice where desire is calling you towards something new, where grief is asking to be acknowledged, where your intuition is trying to speak and where you have made yourself smaller than you need to be.

And if you are already walking with her, perhaps this is an invitation to walk a little deeper.

A huge thank you to every shamanic practitioner who joined us at Findhorn Eco Village from 15th–22nd September for Embracing Shamanism. 🌿

What a week.

A week of practice, learning, sharing, questioning, laughing, exploring, sitting around tables, walking the land, and finding those unexpected connections that seem to appear when a group of people come together with openness and intention.

We are deeply grateful for the community spirit that everyone brought with them, and for the loving dedication to shamanic practice that was so evident throughout the week. There was a generosity in the sharing of knowledge and experience, a willingness to listen and learn from one another, and plenty of room for the magic, mystery and downright human messiness of walking this path together.

Thank you for l supporting the work that lies at the heart of what we are trying to nurture: connection, community, relationship with the living world and a shamanic practice that continues to grow through people rather than institutions.

Thank you for bringing your stories, your questions, your wisdom, your curiosity, your humour and yourselves.

The week may be over, but I have a feeling some of the connections made there will continue to spread — a bit like mycelium beneath the forest floor. 🍄🌿

Until we meet again. ❤️

There is something beautiful about meeting in community with people who share something of the way you see the world. You come together initially because of a practice, an interest, a curiosity or a shared path, but somewhere along the way the boundaries between community and friendship begin to soften. You learn each other’s stories. You laugh together, argue about things, share food, offer support, and slowly become part of one another’s lives.

Perhaps that is one of the gifts of community: friendship doesn’t have to be hunted down and pursued. It can grow organically from simply being together, again and again, with people who understand something of what matters to you.

Today, I found a card lying on the floor—fallen from a deck, unnoticed. But there she was. And I knew.

She is not flashy. Not loud. She doesn’t seek your worship. She waits. Until you’re ready to carry on with her.

Right now, she is teaching me how to weave. All the talents and threads I’ve gathered in my life—the skills, the pain, the wisdom—I’ve let them fray for too long. But now they begin to gather, and I realise: this, too, is her work. She shows me how to bring it all together. Thread by thread.

I still don’t know what I’d place on her altar. Maybe my own tired heart. Maybe nothing. Maybe just a space left open for her to arrive.

Living here in Carlisle, Lughnasadh always feels a little closer to home.

Many people know it as the beginning of the harvest, but fewer know that the god Lugh has long been connected with this part of the world. Some believe his name echoes through places across Cumbria, reminding us that these stories were once woven into the landscape itself.

Whether or not you honour the old gods, I think there’s something timeless about this festival.

It’s a moment to stop chasing what’s next and notice what has already grown.

The harvest isn’t just found in fields. It’s in the conversations that changed us, the skills we’ve learned, the friendships we’ve nurtured, the challenges we’ve survived, and the quieter victories that no one else may ever see.

Perhaps that’s what Lammas asks of us: not to strive for more for just one day, but to acknowledge that we are already carrying the fruits of seeds planted months—or even years—ago.

So today I’ll be taking a moment to give thanks for the visible and invisible harvest alike.

However you celebrate, I wish you a blessed Lughnasadh. 🌾
