Views from campus with... Dr Penny Bradshaw Associate Professor of English Literature

From giving childhood lessons to her teddy bears to leading our MA in Literature, Romanticism, and the Lake District, Associate Professor Dr Penny Bradshaw has spent 25 years shaping minds at our university. Having graduated from our Lancaster campus before making Ambleside her academic home, Penny reflects on the vital role of the humanities, Wordsworth's local footprints, and her ultimate spots for a movie night and a lakeside picnic.

NEWS: “It’s surreal, I still can’t believe it..." 🏋️

University of Cumbria alumnus Andy Griffiths has reflected on the "incredible" feeling of winning a medal at the 2026 Commonwealth Games.

The 33-year-old, who studied Primary Education at the university, claimed bronze in the men’s +110kg weightlifting event in Glasgow.

The start of his weightlifting journey can be traced back to his time with the University of Cumbria, where he regularly trained in our Lancaster campus gym.

Andy, who captained the basketball team at university, was initially working on exercises that would help him jump higher before discovering his talent for weightlifting.

Congratulations, Andy, on a brilliant achievement 👏

It was lovely to welcome the Charlotte Mason class of 1988 back to campus in Ambleside yesterday. The rain stopped just long enough for a campus tour and the obligatory photo outside Scale How. The group enjoyed reminiscing in the Beehive, and then off to the Golden Rule for a pint.

Fancy your own reunion? Get in touch, email [email protected]
