Purple Pie started as one of those little ideas in my head that somehow escaped and became a real thing.
And somewhere between exhibitions, open calls, late-night judging sessions, spreadsheets, picture rails, opening nights, moving artwork around for the 47th time and me saying “I’ve had an idea…” far too often, these beautiful humans got pulled into the madness with me.
I’m ridiculously lucky to have people around me who believe in this slightly bonkers dream, bring their own magic to it, tell me when I’m being ridiculous, and somehow keep showing up to help me make it happen.
Purple Pie might have started as my idea, but it definitely isn’t just me anymore.
So, before our Autumn Exhibition opens this Friday, and because you’ll see these faces running around on the night, it feels like a good time to properly introduce the little team behind it all.
Introducing… the Purple Pie team.
JENNA MURPHY
Founder & Curator
Swears more than the Purple Pie Instagram suggests.
Jenna started Purple Pie, curates the exhibitions and generally comes up with another idea before we've finished the last one. Usually found painting to R&B, wearing something she absolutely did not need from the supermarket clothes aisle, and panicking if the house is running dangerously low on ketchup.
ANDREW WELLBELOVED
Co-Founder & Operations
Runs 10Ks for fun. Loves pizza even more.
Andrew is the one keeping Purple Pie moving while Jenna comes up with another idea before we've finished the last one. Always joking around, regularly goes out and runs 10K for fun, and has a relationship with pizza that probably deserves its own Instagram account.
He also puts up with an enormous amount of Purple Pie chaos with a smile.
Everyone should have an Andrew in their life.
AIMEE
Selection Panel & Research
Knows exactly what she likes. And definitely what she doesn't.
Aimee is part of our selection panel and can disappear down an Instagram deep dive like nobody else. She knows exactly what she likes, exactly what she doesn't, and has a dark sense of humour that pairs slightly too well with Andrew's.
She also once got asked in a job interview what she does outside of work and casually replied that she's on the selection panel for an independent art gallery.
Purple Pie made it onto the CV before we'd even realised we were that fancy. 😂
GEORGIA
Creative & Selection Panel
Has handwriting so good it should probably be a font.
Georgia brings the thoughtful side to our selection panel. With a background in design, she notices the details, really thinks about her feedback and has a lovely way of seeing something in a piece that the rest of us might have missed.
She also provides some much-needed balance to Aimee's slightly more… decisive approach. 😂
And she has genuinely got some of the best handwriting I've ever seen. Like annoyingly good. The sort of handwriting that makes you reconsider everything you've ever scribbled on a Post-it.
CLARE
Opening Night & Sales
Has so much light in her, it spills onto everyone else.
Clare is my partner in crime in the 9–5 and somehow I've managed to rope her into Purple Pie too. 😂
She's become part of our opening night team, often helping out on the till alongside my lovely mum, and she's exactly the kind of person you want welcoming people into Purple Pie.
She's ridiculously kind, has a killer smile and has this way of making whoever she's talking to feel completely at ease.
She has so much light in her, it spills onto everyone else.
And I'm very lucky that I get her in both parts of my life. 💜
