The children at The Hollies enjoyed celebrating Chinese New Year with a range of themed sensory tuff trays, filled with hands-on activities to explore textures, colours and cultural symbols.

They also took part in creative craft activities, including making their own lanterns, developing fine motor skills while learning about traditions from around the world.

A wonderful celebration full of exploration, creativity and cultural learning. 🏮

🥞 Pancake Day at The Hollies 🥞

Today the children enjoyed creating their very own pancake masterpieces at our special pancake station. From choosing their toppings to carefully building their “pancake cakes”, there were lots of smiles, concentration and proud moments along the way.

Heddiw, cafodd y plant greu eu campweithiau crempog eu hunain yn ein gorsaf grempog arbennig. O ddewis eu topins i adeiladu eu “cacennau crempog”, roedd llawer o wên, canolbwyntio a balchder ar hyd y ffordd.

🍕 National Pizza Making Day 🍕

Last week, the children at The Hollies enjoyed celebrating National Pizza Making Day by creating their very own pizzas. From spreading the tomato sauce to choosing and sprinkling their toppings, the children were fully involved in every step of the process.

Cooking experiences like this are a key part of our Let’s Cook programme. Through hands on food preparation, children develop fine motor skills, build independence and confidence and begin to understand healthy choices and nutrition. It also encourages communication, turn taking and a real sense of pride in their achievements.

Best of all, the children then enjoyed tasting their delicious creations together!

🍕 Dathlu Diwrnod Cenedlaethol Gwneud Pizza yn The Hollies 🍕

Wythnos diwethaf, cafodd y plant yn The Hollies fwynhau dathlu Diwrnod Cenedlaethol Gwneud Pizza drwy greu eu pizzas eu hunain. O wasgaru’r saws tomato i ddewis ac ychwanegu eu topins, roedd y plant yn rhan o bob cam o’r broses.

Mae profiadau coginio fel hyn yn rhan bwysig o’n rhaglen gwricwlaidd Let’s Cook. Trwy baratoi bwyd yn ymarferol, mae plant yn datblygu sgiliau echddygol manwl, yn meithrin annibyniaeth a hyder, ac yn dechrau deall dewisiadau iach a maeth. Mae hefyd yn annog cyfathrebu, cymryd tro a balchder yn eu cyflawniadau.

Yn anad dim, cafodd y plant flasu eu creadigaethau blasus gyda’i gilydd — ffordd hyfryd o ddathlu eu gwaith caled.

🌼🐉 St David’s Day Celebrations at The Hollies 🐉🌼

We’re getting ready to celebrate St David’s Day with our very own nursery Eisteddfod and we’d love our families to get involved.

We’re inviting children to create something at home using recyclable materials and loose parts, linked to their room theme:

• Explorers (Under 2s) – Daffodils
• Discoverers (2–3 years) – Dragons
• Adventurers (3+) – Traditional Welsh children’s clothing

Please bring creations into nursery by 27th February. All entries will be displayed at the front of the nursery on 2nd March, where we’ll also be holding a friendly competition for the best creation. Each room will also be taking part in a best decorated door competition.

We can’t wait to see the children’s creativity shine as we celebrate Welsh culture and community together.

Rydym yn paratoi i ddathlu Dydd Gŵyl Dewi gyda’n Eisteddfod fechan ein hunain, a byddem wrth ein bodd pe bai teuluoedd yn cymryd rhan.

Rydym yn gwahodd plant i greu rhywbeth gartref gan ddefnyddio deunyddiau ailgylchu a darnau rhydd, yn gysylltiedig â thema eu hystafell:

Our Discoverers have been enjoying imaginative play in the role play area using our new wooden pizza set! 🍕

This sparked lots of conversation, creativity and collaboration, which we then extended into a real-life experience by making pizzas together for snack time.

By linking role play with hands-on cooking, the children strengthened communication skills, developed independence and saw how their play connects to everyday life, a meaningful and enjoyable learning experience.

Sbardunodd hyn lawer o sgyrsiau, creadigrwydd a chydweithio, a gwnaethom ymestyn y dysgu drwy wneud pizzas go iawn gyda’n gilydd ar gyfer amser byrbryd.

Drwy gysylltu chwarae rôl â choginio ymarferol, datblygodd y plant eu sgiliau cyfathrebu, annibyniaeth, a dealltwriaeth o sut mae chwarae’n cysylltu â bywyd bob dydd, profiad dysgu ystyrlon a phleserus.

Our Discoverers have been busy refining their fine motor skills while creating bird feeders using a range of different resources. 🐦🌿

This hands-on experience supported careful movements, coordination and problem-solving, while also encouraging a meaningful connection to nature. As they worked, the children talked about why birds need extra help during the winter months, helping to build empathy and an early understanding of caring for wildlife.

A simple activity with so many valuable learning moments. 🥰

Roedd y profiad ymarferol hwn yn cefnogi symudiadau manwl, cydsymud a datrys problemau, yn ogystal â meithrin cysylltiad ystyrlon â natur. Wrth weithio, bu’r plant yn trafod pam mae adar angen cymorth ychwanegol yn ystod misoedd y gaeaf, gan helpu i ddatblygu empathi a dealltwriaeth gynnar o ofalu am fywyd gwyllt.

Our children took part in a Reindeer Run in support of City Hospice, raising funds for an incredible local cause. It was wonderful to see the children getting involved, having fun, and supporting their community.

The children visited Oak House Care Home, where they spent time with the residents and shared gifts collected by the children and families of The Hollies. It was a lovely opportunity to build connections across generations and show kindness within our local community.

We’re thrilled to share that our nursery has a brand new sensory tent and toys, helping us create even more magical opportunities for our children to explore, relax, and engage their senses in a calm, nurturing space. 💫

🪔✨ Celebrating Diwali at The Hollies! ✨🪔

The children have been learning all about the Festival of Lights, they explored beautifully themed tuff trays and designed their very own paper lanterns! 🎨

They also enjoyed exploring traditional patterns with henna-style designs and had the chance to see and appreciate some wonderful examples of traditional clothing, learning more about their colours and cultural meanings.

It’s been a fantastic week filled with light, colour and celebration!

🎃👻 Spooky fun at The Hollies! 👻🎃

Our children had an exciting trip to the local supermarket this week to pick out their very own pumpkins! 🛒 They carefully chose their favourites before bringing them back to nursery for a fun-filled carving session. ✨

Back at nursery, the spooky fun continued with lots of Halloween-themed activities, from creative crafts to sensory play and everything in between! 🕷️

It’s been a wonderful way to explore the season, get creative, and enjoy a little Halloween magic together!
