📣Results day tomorrow - Good Luck Everyone 🤞💫

A fantastic 𝐃𝐨𝐟𝐄 𝐩𝐫𝐚𝐜𝐭𝐢𝐜𝐞 𝐞𝐱𝐩𝐞𝐝𝐢𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 with Year 10 on Monday. Participants navigated themselves along the planned route, getting lost a few times but using their skills and resilience to correct themselves.

Everyone worked well as a team, particularly at camp when tents were set up and a range of meals cooked on the stoves. Despite some sore shoulders, and first aid skills being tested, it was 𝐚𝐧 𝐞𝐱𝐩𝐞𝐝𝐢𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐭𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐰𝐚𝐬 𝐞𝐧𝐣𝐨𝐲𝐞𝐝 𝐛𝐲 𝐚𝐥𝐥.

Mrs Davies recently took a group of Year 10 pupils to 𝐑𝐞𝐧𝐢𝐬𝐡𝐚𝐰 in Miskin, where they discovered how engineering and measurement technology support industries ranging from automotive manufacturing to 3D printing.

Pupils took part in a STEM workshop, building their own torches capable of shining in six different colours. They also explored the skills employers and universities look for, before tackling a team-building challenge to build a tower of cups without touching them.

The group heard from a Level 6 Apprentice about the different routes into engineering, including the benefits of earning while studying for a degree.

The day concluded with a fascinating tour of the facility, giving pupils a valuable insight into careers in engineering and manufacturing.

🌱 We are proud to see our gardening and sustainability programme featured by the 𝘞𝘦𝘴𝘵𝘦𝘳𝘯 𝘔𝘢𝘪𝘭 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘞𝘢𝘭𝘦𝘴 247. Thanks to the hard work of Mr Birch and our pupils, homegrown vegetables are now being donated to 𝐒𝐭 𝐕𝐢𝐧𝐜𝐞𝐧𝐭'𝐬 𝐂𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐫𝐞 𝐅𝐨𝐨𝐝 𝐁𝐚𝐧𝐤, helping to support our local community while promoting sustainability and food education. 💚

The group had been working on their ideas for solutions to world problems for a couple of months with Cardiff University. One group of pupils pitched their idea to a large audience of other schools, scientists and business owners. 💡

𝘋𝘢𝘷𝘪𝘯𝘢, 𝘐𝘴𝘪𝘴, 𝘡𝘢𝘳𝘢, 𝘑𝘢𝘯𝘯𝘢𝘵, 𝘔𝘪𝘬𝘪, 𝘖𝘭𝘪𝘷𝘪𝘢 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘗𝘩𝘦𝘣𝘦 presented an excellent speech on their app, ‘World Cycle’. The app would allow donations from schools, businesses and universities to be advertised on their app. Their presentation was amazing and, despite slight nerves, they did an outstanding job. 👏

We watched a range of other presentations from schools across the UK and abroad. We were also treated to a science show and a closing speech from an astronaut. 👨‍🚀

👷‍♀️ 𝐖𝐨𝐦𝐞𝐧 𝐢𝐧 𝐂𝐨𝐧𝐬𝐭𝐫𝐮𝐜𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐃𝐚𝐲 👷‍♀️

Pupils recently attended a 𝐖𝐨𝐦𝐞𝐧 𝐢𝐧 𝐂𝐨𝐧𝐬𝐭𝐫𝐮𝐜𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐃𝐚𝐲 at the site of Cardiff and Vale College’s new Net-Zero Advanced Technology Centre at the Cardiff Airport Enterprise Zone. During the visit, pupils learned about the wide range of careers available within the construction industry and gained valuable insight into the sector. They enjoyed touring the site and discovering how innovative technologies, including virtual reality (VR) and robotics, are being used in modern construction projects. The day was both inspiring and informative, giving pupils a greater understanding of the opportunities available in construction and encouraging them to consider future careers in the industry. The event was supported by Bouygues, Wilmott Dixon, Webco, and the Construction Industry Training Board (CITB), whose contributions helped make the experience both engaging and rewarding. We are grateful to all the organisers and industry partners for providing such a valuable opportunity for our pupils. 🙌

Our Year 10 pupils recently enjoyed an exciting careers trip to Cardiff Metropolitan University and Cardiff and Vale College - Coleg Caerdydd a'r Fro, where they explored the many career opportunities available within the sporting industry beyond being an athlete.

Linked to the upcoming Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, pupils were able to choose from four specialist pathways based on their interests. These included Sport Media and Performance Analysis at Cardiff Met’s Cyncoed Campus, Fashion Design and Events Management at Cardiff Met’s Llandaff Campus, Sports Coaching and Strength & Conditioning at CAVC Leckwith, and Construction and Building Services at CAVC Dumballs Road.

Throughout the day, pupils took part in engaging workshops, met industry professionals and gained a valuable insight into the diverse range of careers that contribute to the success of major sporting events. The experience encouraged pupils to think about their future aspirations and highlighted the many pathways available within the sports industry.

A huge thank you to Cardiff Metropolitan University and Cardiff and Vale College for providing such an inspiring and informative experience for our students.

Last week, Mr Speight visited our Year 11 students who are currently undertaking an exciting work experience placement at the 𝐍𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐚𝐥 𝐒𝐨𝐟𝐭𝐰𝐚𝐫𝐞 𝐀𝐜𝐚𝐝𝐞𝐦𝐲, part of the 𝐒𝐜𝐡𝐨𝐨𝐥 𝐨𝐟 𝐂𝐨𝐦𝐩𝐮𝐭𝐞𝐫 𝐒𝐜𝐢𝐞𝐧𝐜𝐞 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐈𝐧𝐟𝐨𝐫𝐦𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐜𝐬 𝐚𝐭 𝐂𝐚𝐫𝐝𝐢𝐟𝐟 𝐔𝐧𝐢𝐯𝐞𝐫𝐬𝐢𝐭𝐲.

Our students secured their places through a highly competitive application process, earning one of a limited number of placements from more than 100 applicants across South Wales. During the week, they have worked collaboratively to solve real-world problems, pitched ideas to a panel of "dragons", explored the role of a software engineer, developed key employability skills, delivered presentations, and learned agile development techniques.

It was fantastic to hear from University staff about the excellent progress our students are making. Their enthusiasm, professionalism and willingness to embrace new challenges have made a real impression, and we are incredibly proud of how they are representing the school.
