Having just rewatched Adolescence, having worked in schools for now 5 years, and as a parent who own son was exposed to something he shouldn't in Year 5 in the playground causing a Safeguarding concern. ... I completely and utterly support the Online Bill ammendments and the ban of social media to under 16's.
Things parents can do.
⭐️ Use Family link on Android phones ( or the equivalent on Apple) , this allows you to check websites and app ads to their phones.
⭐️Disable all chat on online gaming , use WhatsApp on speaker with supervision.
⭐️Talk to your child openly that the online world is potentially dangerous.
⭐️Be careful when watching news or TV yourself - little ears hear a lot.
⭐️If your child has a phone check it often. Put limits on it and ALL devices.
⭐️ Do not let them use social media.
⭐️ Make sure your own accounts are private.
**Edited Online harm is ONE of the biggest challenges to young people at the moment.😔
There are multiple reports in the media of children taking part in online trends including shoplifting, attacking people, school wars etc. This tells us everything. And ive seen it on the ground.
Please note I will be no longer offering in person tutoring, however, please keep on following for hints and tips for KS3 and GCSE English , academic research in education and sustainability and general all round educationally related stuff!!

I was chatting to a student yesterday and was reminded of a very common mistake that can be made on AQA English Language paper 2 Q5.
Be absolutely sure on the PURPOSE and the TYPE of text you are writing, and format appropriately!
For example:
⭐️ writing a letter? Add an address to the top, use a greeting and a sign off.
⭐️ An article? Add a headline, subheadings.
⭐️ Formal or informal language?
⭐️ CLEAR purpose - use persuasive language!!
⭐️ Finally, if appropriate always try to add in a personal anecdote - it gives you authority on the subject and creates an emotional connection to the reader.
There are lots more hints and tips up my sleeve!

Poet Michael Rosen has recently said issues around climate change should be interwoven into the curriculum, using creative methods to alleviate guilt and anxiety. 💚
I love this. As educators we have a unique opportunity to take OUR fears and anxieties and challenge them into poetry, storytelling, art and drama. All of which can help young people address the urgency and importance of climate action. 🌳🌱🌿🪻🌷

Back on supply yesterday covering Maths - it was great to be back in the classroom in a school that I really enjoy working at! After some time out to pursue my PhD, what a great reminder of all the potential and excitement from students, from a year 7 presentation from a local university, to chatting with GCSE statistics students about their over aims , really reminded me why Education is so valuable and just how much work schools and teachers put into their progress. Also had a lovely comment from a student who remembered me from covering an Art class last academic year. 🥰 ✨️✨️✨️
