We were delighted to see Joseph, our Vice School Captain, secure his place at the University of Cambridge to study History and Politics following his A Level results.⁠

It’s a fantastic achievement after nine years at St Edmund’s, during which Joseph has thrown himself into school life, from sport and drama to music, debating and, most recently, his role as Vice School Captain.⁠

At Speech Day, Joseph reflected on the many opportunities and experiences he has enjoyed, but it was the people who stood out most: “St Edmund’s is, and always has been for me, a school of people.”*

And summing up what those nine years have meant to him, he said: “My time here has been nothing short of special.”
⁠
Congratulations, Joseph. We’ll miss you at St Edmund’s and wish you all the very best for History and Politics at Cambridge.

Continuing our look back at the achievements of our leavers, today we’re celebrating Daisy, who alongside Rhyd served as School Captain during her final year at St Edmund’s.⁠

Over seven years at the school, Daisy has embraced so much of St Edmund’s life, from sport and academics to music and drama, before taking on the responsibility of representing the school as School Captain.⁠

At Speech Day, Daisy reflected on the advice she would give her Year 7 self: “Work hard, be kind and remember to look up every now and then.”
⁠
And as she looked back on what St Edmund’s has come to mean to her, she shared: “You have given me more than an education and I leave with immense gratitude, lifelong friends and memories that will stay with me forever.”

Daisy will now embark on a gap year before heading to the University of Leeds to study Music Performance – a fitting next chapter for someone who has contributed so much to music and school life during her time here.

We are delighted to announce that Olivia (Year 13) has received a commendation in the 2026 Mary Renault Classical Reception Essay Competition.

This is a national essay competition for Sixth Formers who intend to study Classics at University that is run by St Hugh’s College, Oxford.

In recognition of her success, Olivia has been invited to meet academic staff for afternoon tea at St Hugh’s in September!

We congratulate Olivia on this excellent academic achievement.

Students at St Edmund’s are today celebrating the school’s strongest GCSE results in a decade.
This year's overall 9-4 pass rate is 93% (90% - 2025) and 41% of all grades awarded were 7-9 (35% - 2025).

We are equally proud of the remarkable young people they have become. Alongside their studies, they have demonstrated resilience in the face of challenge and developed vital communication, teamwork and leadership skills that extend far beyond the classroom.

Eighteen students achieved an average grade of 7 or higher (A or better on the previous grading system) across of their academic subjects. This reflects the strong academic profile and work ethic of the year group.
The following subjects achieved an impressive 100% pass rate at grades 9-4 (number of candidates in brackets): Art, Biology, Ceramics, Chemistry, Chinese, Drama, EAL, Film, French, Further Maths, German, Physics, Religion and Russian.

At St Edmunds, we understand that definitions of “success” vary from pupil to pupil. For some pupils, a grade 4 pass represents a significant personal achievement. We celebrate these results with equal pride alongside our highest grades. St Edmund’s staff will today start reviewing the results in detail and conduct Value-Added analysis to assess individual performances using established national benchmarking systems. This work will help to inform our academic strategy for the coming year.

Head Edward O’Connor said, “These excellent results represent the culmination of many years of collective endeavour. My congratulations go to our pupils on their individual achievements and my sincere thanks to our parent community who make significant sacrifices to enable their children to attend our school. I am also immensely grateful to our extraordinary teaching team whose kindness, expertise, professionalism and sheer hard work underpin these results.”

Looking back on last week’s A Level results, we were delighted to see Rhyd, our School Captain, achieve the grades he needed to secure his place to study Medicine at the University of Bristol.

It’s a fitting end to ten years at St Edmund’s, during which Rhyd has thrown himself into school life, from music and drama to CCF and, most recently, his role as School Captain.

At Speech Day, Rhyd reflected: “I’ve become someone who’s willing to put my hand up and try new things, even if I’m scared.”

And perhaps particularly fitting for a School Captain, he shared what our school motto has come to mean to him: “It’s about helping other people to become the best version of themselves.”

Congratulations, Rhyd. We’ll miss you at St Edmund’s and wish you all the best for Medicine at Bristol.

In a thrilling display of Lego engineering brilliance and masterclass⁠ coding skills, team BrickSquad from St Edmund’s School stormed to victory at the UK National Final for the World Robotic Olympiad in July, securing a magnificent first-place finish on the grandest national stage!⁠

The champion team—comprising the immensely talented Florrie, Toby, Ollie, and Logan—delivered an absolute clinic in technology, innovation, and teamwork.⁠
