A fantastic day of art, history and inspiration as our students visited Farleys House & Gallery and Charleston.
At Farleys, students explored the remarkable life and work of photographer Lee Miller, whose powerful images documented some of the most significant moments of the twentieth century. They also discovered the surrealist sculpture garden and learned more about the extraordinary creative circle surrounding Miller and Roland Penrose, which included artists such as Pablo Picasso.
The sculpture garden offered a very different way to experience art, encouraging students to interact with works in the landscape and think about how sculpture can be encountered, explored and felt.
The day continued at Charleston, the former home of artists Vanessa Bell and Duncan Grant, where students learned about the influential Bloomsbury Group and their efforts to challenge the artistic, social and cultural conventions of their time.
From Lee Miller’s groundbreaking photography to Charleston’s spirit of creativity and experimentation, the visit gave students plenty of inspiration, discussion and food for thought.
