The Publishing Society primarily aims to engage students with the publishing industry, through the creation of our magazine, Figment, once a term and industry-related events. However, there is also a great focus on art and creative writing, with a new submitters membership for those who wish to submit work for the magazine without full membership. For more information on membership and submission rules, visit our Kent Union site: http://www.kentunion.co.uk/organisation/PublishingSociety/

Greetings Fellow publishers!

I hope you all had fantastic weekends :)

Last week was our last editorial for editing written pieces. We are now working towards designing the magazine which will be published and sold at the end of term launch party, so keep an eye out for the event!

Wednesday's editorial will be held as usual from 5-7 at Cornwallis North-West Seminar room 6. At the editorial we will be voting for which pieces should be in the magazine. We want all our members to have a say in which pieces enter Figment so If you really liked a piece or worked hard editing a poem or prose it would be great to see you there. By the end of Wednesday's editorial we should know which pieces will be in Figment!

Our extra editorial is this Thursday 5-7 in Darwin Seminar Room 8. Here we will set out our agenda over the next few week and together start designing the magazine! This is a rewarding, productive process and ensures that members have a say in the final look of the magazine.

Priyanka will be sending a follow up email today with the PDF of all the edited pieces we have looked at this term.

See you on Wednesday!
Katie.

Hey hey guys,

Firstly, thank you to everyone who came to Club Burrito last night, it was a fab evening and we were really pleased with the turnout!

Secondly, editorials will be held every Wednesday from 5 - 7 in Cornwallis Northwest seminar room 6. For those wanting to submit, we welcome any prose, poetry, photography and artwork, so please send your pieces to [email protected] (written submissions should be a maximum of 1000 words).

We look forward to seeing everyone next week!

Morning everyone!

I hope you're first week of lectures is going swimmingly. I sent out an email earlier this week with information about our introductory meeting and editorial taster session, however a few of the email addresses pinged back as unable to send.

For those of you who have not received the email I have posted it below (also, we will be heading to Mungos rather than Kbar or Origins):

Greetings Fellow Publishers!

Thank you to all of you who visited our stall at Fresher's Fayre and signed up, it was fantastic to see so many people interested in the society and I know this is going to be a great year!

We have our introductory meeting this Wednesday (the 28th) from 5-6 in Grimond Seminar Room 2. At this meeting we will discuss in more detail what we do and our aims for the society, as well as how you can all get involved in creating the best student led publication in town! We will also be talking about our open mic night at Club Burrito on the 6th October where members (and non-members) can perform music and poetry readings. So if this sounds like the kind of thing you would like to be involved in you should definitely come along!

After the introductions, we will run an editorial taster session. The committee will bring along several poems from last year, which we are currently choosing. Once our editor has selected the poems we will send round another email on Tuesday with the poems attached. If you have a chance to look over them before you arrive that would be great, but if not don't worry. From next week on we will be accepting submissions from students but the taster session is more about getting a feel of how our editorials work and sharing ideas as well as celebrating a mutual appreciation for all things creative!

After that we will be heading off to Kbar (or Origins) for some socializing and to sample some of the famous Kent campus cuisine!

I hope to see you all on Wednesday, armed with pens and creative thoughts!

Best wishes,

Katie and the PubSoc committee.
