🌞 Heatwave Awareness from the Heart of the Community 🌞

After organizing Heatwave Awarness Session, we are really excited to see that people like Rojina Begum, giving feedbacks.

Meet Rojina Begum from Rupnagar Slum.
She shared with us:

“We didn't understand the risks of heatwaves so well before, but now we can inform others.”

This simple yet powerful message reminds us that knowledge saves lives. By raising awareness and mapping vulnerable areas through OpenStreetMap (OSM), communities like Rupnagar are learning how to protect themselves and others during extreme heat.

🌍🔥 Tackling Heatwaves in Dhaka’s Slums
We at OSM Academy, with the support of Open Mapping Hub - Asia Pacific and World Vision Bangladesh, Humanitarian OpenStreetMap Team (HOT), on the Climate Resilience Fellowship Project, are working to build resilience against rising heat risks in Dhaka’s slum communities.

Untill August 31, 2025, we reached a big milestone:
✅ Collected community data
✅ Did Field Mapping Using Kobo & Mapilarry
✅ Submitted Data to OpenStreetMap
✅ Engaged directly with residents to understand their challenges
✅ Trained local volunteers to strengthen community preparedness

Now, as we move into the next phase, we are preparing to:
🔹 Launch community workshops
🔹 Monitor and support vulnerable groups
🔹 Develop sustainable solutions to reduce heat risks

Together, we believe that open data, community engagement, and youth-led action can protect vulnerable communities from the growing threat of climate change. 💪🌱
