This π Forest school should never be about coralling children through a series of set activities to maintain control in an outdoor environment that sometimes feels scary ....The most valuable thing i do in my work is to be aware x ππ³π³π³π
π« Myth: Active supervision means having eyes on every child, all the time: scanning, counting, never turning away.
β
Truth: The regulations donβt say that. They say educators must be actively supervising, knowing where children are, what theyβre doing, and being ready to respond.
At Little Wildlings, that means moving with awareness, not fear. Itβs about connection and professional judgment, knowing your space, your team, and your children well enough to support their exploration confidently.
Weβre not here to control play β weβre here to keep it possible. When supervision becomes about trust instead of tension, everyone feels it. Educators, maybe itβs time to re-read whatβs actually written, and let go of the myths that keep us from truly being present. Letβs move from constant watching to conscious awareness.
Because when educators feel trusted to use their knowledge, children feel trusted to explore their world.

Russ and I are attending this training with the highly respected Jon Cree. We tussle with this alot in our roles but absolutely respect that this is play that the children who attend our sessions want to explore... our job is to facilitate that in an informed, considered and kind way. Can't wait !! π

This ... our holiday club is all about the play π
Play isnβt a break from learning.
It is a way that children learn.
On , weβre celebrating the theme Spaces for Play β a call to protect and prioritise the places where children can be loud, wild, quiet, curious, muddy, joyful, and completely themselves.
Whether itβs a school field, a forest school fire circle or a park bench with a stick and some string, children will play anywhere.
But they need the time.
They need the freedom.
And they need space.
Letβs make sure that the necessary spaces to play exist in the future, but championing it today.
