National conversations on Media and Information Literacy are stronger when they aren't concentrated in one part of the country. As PAMIL's Visayas representative, we particularly encourage those from the region to take part!

⚠️ Careful of scanning random QR codes! QR code scams are getting sneakier, so this is worth knowing.

A QR code can look completely harmless, but before scanning one, take a few seconds to check where it's actually taking you and what you're being asked to enter.

❌POV your Dad sends you a message: "Please send money. It's an emergency!"
It looks like your dad, it came from his account, but the person typing may not be him.

If your account gets hacked, scammers can message the people who love you, asking you for help because they know you wouldn't say no to someone who is close to you. That is the whole reason the account was worth stealing!

🤳So before you send anything, call. Not a message, a call where you speak to your contact saying they need money from you. Ask them questions about who they are, about memories you have with them and things that person should definitely know if it's really them!

🔒Maybe even agree on a CODE WORD with your closest friends and family, so that if someone calls pretending to be them, you can ask for the word only they would know?

And if it really is them? They will not be angry, but they will be glad and understand that you checked to make sure you are not sending money to a scammer.

⚠ NEED FAST MONEY?
WARNING: That is exactly when scammers find you.

Here is the rule that keeps you safe: a real loan NEVER asks you to pay before you receive it❗️

Processing fee. Release fee. Insurance. Notary fee. It does not matter what they call it. Real lenders take their costs out of the loan itself. They do not ask you to send money first.

And it never stops at one fee. You pay, then there is another one. Then another. The loan never arrives.

If money has to leave your hands before any money reaches you: stop. You have lost nothing by walking away.

What's the point?
Do you ever stop to ask this before you post, react, or comment to something?🤔

Of course, not everything has to be serious - and it's even good to make people laugh! But if a comment does not help anyone, does not add anything, spreads hate and toxicity, 🤬and only makes someone feel bad, the Internet does not need more of that!

Typing what you would never say out loud does not make you a warrior: It makes you a cyberbully!

✅General rule: if you would not say it to their face, do not say it online.

✅✅Better rule: if you would not say it in front of your Lola or Nanay👵🏽, it probably should not be said at all!

Do you use the same password for everything?
Most people do, because it is easier to remember.

The problem is that if someone hacks that ONE password, they do not just get into one account ➡ they get into ALL OF YOUR ACCOUNTS❗️ Your Facebook, email, E-bank... everything.

We know it sounds like a huge hassle to change everything and remember so many passwords. But you don't have to change all of them today. Just start with three: your email, your bank, your Facebook.

⚠Do your email first: because if someone gets into your email, they can change the password on all your other accounts.

We know its annoying, but at BANTAYnet we believe in "better safe than sorry". Don't you agree? 🔒😃

Are you PROUD of your Online Presence❓ Anyone can see your posts - even people you never thought about! 😲 A future boss, a school you want to get into, or someone who just doesn't like you.

You don't need a million followers for that to matter, especially if anyone can see your posts.
So before you post, ask one thing: will I still be proud of this in five years?

That way you don't have to worry in the future. Old "jokes", comments about how someone looks, or mean comments. Often, things that were normal before and are not OK later, as people realise some types of comments just aren't kind. 🧡

Maybe there's something you posted years ago that you would delete today? 👀

Be very careful. You don't have to figure out if it's a scam: You just don't click!!!

Worried it could be real? Call them yourself. Use a number you already have (NEVER the number in the message, because that's probably the scammers number, pretending to be from the company or organisation!).
