Missed your planned hour-long workout?

Apparently that means the remaining 15 minutes are now completely useless, so you may as well sit down and try again next Monday.

Or—and hear me out—you could train for 15 minutes.

The updated UK physical-activity guidance now makes the point that every minute counts. That doesn’t mean two trips to the kettle replace proper training, but it does mean shorter sessions are still worth doing.

In 15 minutes, you could complete:

3 rounds of goblet squats
3 rounds of push-ups
3 rounds of rows
A short burst of hard conditioning

It may not be the perfect workout, but it’s considerably better than the perfect workout you didn’t do.

If you only had 15 minutes today, what would you train?

The best training plan after 30 isn’t purely strength, cardio or mobility.

It’s all three.

Strength without fitness leaves you powerful but blowing after one flight of stairs.

Cardio without strength can leave you lighter but not necessarily more capable.

Mobility without strength gives you range you may not be able to control.

The useful middle ground is being able to lift something heavy, move quickly, recover properly and reach the floor without pulling a hamstring.

That’s what functional fitness should actually mean.

Not balancing on a wobble board while somebody throws a medicine ball at your head for Instagram.

Train to look good, absolutely. Just make sure the body underneath is useful too.

You’re probably not “too old” to move well.

You’ve just spent years practising sitting down.

Mobility isn’t about turning yourself into a human pretzel. It’s about having enough usable range of motion to squat, reach, rotate, train and get off the floor without sounding like a haunted wardrobe.

Try this simple test:

Sit down on the floor.

Stand back up without using your hands if possible.

Can you do it smoothly, or does it require a detailed risk assessment?

Strength matters. Cardio matters. But your ability to control your own body through everyday positions matters too.

That’s exactly why I created the free five-minute Morning Mobility Boost:

You don’t need to live in the gym to make training worthwhile.

A long-term study of more than 147,000 people found that 90–119 minutes of resistance training per week was associated with a 13% lower risk of death from any cause.

That’s roughly three 30–40 minute sessions.

Obviously, you can train more if building muscle or improving performance is the goal. But if “I haven’t got time” has become the reason you do nothing, the required starting point is probably smaller than you think.

Two focused hours a week beats seven days of planning to start on Monday.

What could you realistically commit to: two, three or four sessions?

Your smartwatch knows you slept badly.

It knows your resting heart rate is up.

It knows you’ve barely moved today.

And yet there you are, asking it whether you should attempt a personal best. 😂

Wearable technology is ranked as 2026’s biggest fitness trend—but collecting more data isn’t the same as making better decisions.

Keep it simple:

🟢 Normal recovery markers: train as planned
🟠 Slightly off: train, but reduce the volume
🔴 Poor sleep, unusual fatigue and falling performance: recover

Use the watch as information—not as your tiny wrist-based dictator.

Do you genuinely adjust your training from your wearable data, or just look at the score and carry on regardless?

Weight loss and fitness are not the same thing.

A recent study using wearable data found that people actually became LESS active after starting GLP-1 medication:

Steps fell from roughly 5,047 to 4,487 per day, while moderate-to-vigorous activity also dropped.

That doesn’t make the medication “good” or “bad.” It means losing weight doesn’t automatically build strength, fitness or better habits.

The scales can move while your engine quietly gets smaller.

Whatever route someone takes with weight management, the fundamentals still matter:

🏋️ Strength train
🚶 Keep walking
🥩 Eat sufficient protein
😴 Recover properly
📈 Measure performance—not just body weight

A lighter body is useful. A lighter, stronger and fitter body is considerably more useful.

What do you track apart from your weight?

Apparently calisthenics is “trending” again.

Some of us just never stopped hanging off things.

Pull-ups are brilliant, but being unable to do one yet doesn’t mean they’re not for you. Start with:

✅ Dead hangs
✅ Scapular pulls
✅ Controlled negatives
✅ Band-assisted reps

Train the movement twice a week and record your longest hang today. In four weeks, test it again.

The goal after 30 isn’t to avoid difficult things. It’s to build towards them without your elbows and shoulders filing a formal complaint.

How many strict pull-ups can you do right now—0, 1–5, 6–10 or 10+?
