🪨✨ What a wonderful time we had today exploring rocks and stones! ✨🪨
The children absolutely loved digging for their very own precious rocks and stones, discovering all the different shapes, colours and textures along the way. 🔍
Once they had collected their treasures, they enjoyed carefully cleaning them and then sorting and classifying them. It was a fantastic hands-on learning experience, encouraging curiosity, observation and lots of conversation. 💛
So much learning, exploring and fun — all through the joy of discovery! 🌿🪨✨Thewildkind

Today we explored one of Forest School's most exciting skills – fire 🔥

Before we even thought about making a fire, we learned how to safely create a spark using a flint and steel, practising patience, perseverance and safe techniques.

Once everyone understood the process, we headed off to gather natural materials and had a go at building some mini fires. A couple of our older boys rose to the challenge and did a fantastic job – it was wonderful to watch their confidence grow as their hard work paid off.

At Forest School, we believe in giving children the opportunity to take managed risks in a safe, supportive environment. Learning real-life skills like these helps build resilience, independence, problem-solving and self-belief – all while having an amazing time outdoors.

What a beautiful way to end the term with our wonderful bi-weekly sessions at Redbank Rascals Childcare. 🌿💚

The children loved carefully hunting for pond life and seeing what they could identify. We found dragonfly nymphs, water boatmen, goose-neck moss and some very strange wriggly blobs that had us all completely fascinated! We chatted about habitats, how many legs minibeasts have, different types of moss, and learnt that a dragonfly nymph has an exoskeleton, just like a woodlouse. It's amazing how much learning happens when children are simply given the chance to explore.

Afterwards, we got creative and made our own dragonflies using lollipop sticks, sycamore seeds, twigs and other little nature treasures we'd collected. 🍃

Today was also a little emotional as we said goodbye to our two oldest children before they head off to Reception in September. It has been such a joy watching you both grow in confidence, get muddy, ask brilliant questions and build such a lovely connection with nature. Wishing you both the happiest start to school—you'll both be amazing. ❤️
