Important Update: School Arrangements for Tomorrow Morning (Thursday 25 June)

Dear Parents and Carers,

Due to the ongoing extreme hot weather conditions, combined with the age and design of our school building, we have had to make some adjustments to ensure the safety and comfort of our pupils.

Tomorrow morning, the school will be open for Reception, Year 1, Year 2, and Penguins class children only. Unfortunately, we are unable to safely accommodate all year groups due to the heat.

For the children in these specific classes, we are able to accommodate them safely by keeping them downstairs in the cooler areas of the school building throughout the morning.

Please note that all children must be picked up at 1:00 PM, as the entire school will be closed for the afternoon when temperatures are expected to peak.

Childcare Support: We understand that these sudden changes can be challenging. If you have any significant issues around childcare for tomorrow, please contact your child's class teacher directly, and we will do our absolute best to accommodate your situation.

Thank you for your continued understanding, cooperation, and support in keeping our school community safe during this weather.

Important Update: Early School Closure Today and Tomorrow Due to Extreme Heat

Dear Parents and Carers,

We are writing to inform you that the school will be closing early today at 1:00 PM due to the extreme heat conditions.

Please note that while our area is not currently designated in the 'Red' warning zone, we have made this proactive decision due to the age and design of our school building, and entirely in the interest of the welfare and safety of our children. Our building retains heat significantly, and we unfortunately do not have enough well-ventilated or air-conditioned spaces to ensure all children can remain in cool areas when the temperature peaks. To ensure everyone's safety, we will be closing prior to the highest temperatures this afternoon.

This early closure at 1:00 PM will also be in place tomorrow, Thursday 25th June. We completely understand that this is very short notice and appreciate that you may not be able to collect your child at 1:00 PM. If this is the case for you, please message your child’s teacher directly via Class Dojo to let them know. We will ensure that any children remaining are well looked after in our coolest available spaces until you are able to arrive.

Children who normally walk home, will need to be collected by parents, or a message sent to the class teacher to confirm that someone will be home when they arrive.

Thank you so much for your understanding, support, and swift cooperation in helping us keep our school community safe during these extreme weather conditions.

Stay safe and keep cool.

Hot Weather Adjustments

Sun Safety Guidelines for Schools:

Sunscreen:
- Apply a long-lasting, high-factor SPF (at least SPF 30) before school. Children should be encouraged to bring child-friendly roll-on or spray formulas for reapplication.

Clothing & Gear: Children may come to school in PE kit - this is blue/black shorts and a white t-shirt. Hats also offer vital head protection and may be worn.

PE Lessons: PE Lessons will be adjusted and be less active to accomodate the warm weather and will encompass lots of rest breaks and water breaks. We will keep PE lessons under review as the week progresses.

Lunchtime and Breaktimes : Children will be encouraged to take breaks in shaded areas - we are lucky that we have lots of wooded areas, which provide great shade. We may adjust the amount of time the children spend outside as the week progresses.

Water Bottles:
Please ensure your child brings a water bottle to school - we will ensure that they have lots of opportunities throughout the day to remain hydrated.

Please watch this space for any further adjustments as the week progresses.
