With over 900 million active monthly users and billions of 'Snaps' sent each month Snapchat is a popular messaging app among children and young people π»
It allows users to share fun, spontaneous pictures and videos with friends and family whilst using playful filters π»
One of Snapchat's unique features is that pictures videos and messages are only viewable for a short period of time π»
Here is what parents and carers need to know about Snapchat:
Artificial Intelligence - Snapchat' use of AI includes features like 'MY AI' chat box and AI powered filters offering interactive experiences that can be fun but also pose potential risk π»
Screen Addiction - Snapchat boosts user engagement and daily use with features like streaks (daily Snapchat exchanges between you and a friend) - this encourages daily use habits and frequent notifications' can keep users returning to the app π»
Sextortion - because Snapchat's disappearing messages feature may foster a sense of safety, users may become targets for sextortion - e.g. a predator may pressure someone into sending n**e images and then somehow capture those images to threaten and intimidate the victim π»
Snapchat+ - Snapchat+ is the platform's premium subscription service, offering early access to new and exclusive features - these paid features may encourage young users to spend money to access exclusive content - increasing the risk of overspending or feeling pressured to make in-app purchases π»
Accessibility - Snapchat is now accessible from a web browser meaning children can use it on a laptop or tablet without downloading the app - this can make activity harder to monitor, reduce the effectiveness of parental controls and increase the risk of unsupervised communication or exposing to inappropriate content π»
Here is some advice for parents and carers from the National College:
Access the Snapchat Family Safety Hub π»
Block and Report β
Encourage Open Discussions π£

It was a magnificent performance in the football final by our girls tonight. They played as a team, showed great skill and resilience throughout the match. The final score was 2-1 and they should be proud to be runners up of this tournament. There are 30 schools in Burnley so this is a great achievement.
Huge thanks to Mr Klee, Mr Wall and Coach Anwar Cllr Afrasiab Anwar MBE

Year 6 have had a busy Welly Wednesday! We have had transition visits from some of our high schools, had tennis races as part of our PE, completed jigsaws all about the silk road and created our own treasure hunts!

Sports betting has become increasingly visible online, appearing across apps, websites, social media, sports coverage and gaming spaces.
Even when young people are not legally old enough to gamble, they may still encounter betting messages through adverts, influencers, tipsters, friends or adult accounts.
Our latest guide highlights key risks, including:
β’ Easy online access
β’ Gambling becoming normalised around sport
β’ Peer and influencer pressure
β’ Free bet offers
β’ Impulsive spending and chasing losses
It also offers practical advice for parents, carers and educators on starting calm conversations, setting safer digital boundaries, spotting warning signs and finding support.

We are celebrating!
Some of our Year 6 children have just taken part in the Bee Stinger Netball Final. They played 5 matches, won 4 and drew 1. They only conceded 1 goal throughout the tournament and came out as the overall winners. Well done, we are very proud of your teamwork and sportsmanship.

Year 2 managed to dodge the rain today for Teamwork Tuesday. We continued learning how to tell the time and completed a geography fieldwork activity where we had to find features of a village.
