It’s been a lovely few days welcoming our new Reception pupils to school and seeing familiar faces return across all year groups!

We hope everyone’s had a great start and is looking forward to the year ahead.

A couple of dates for your diaries from the PTA too:

🥂🍻☕️PTA Meeting: Tuesday 22nd September, 7.30pm in The Red Lion. All welcome whether you’ve been before or not.

🪩🕺🏾🎃Halloween Disco: Friday 16th October, from 6pm and 715pm depending on age group, school hall. Tickets on sale soon.

We hope to see lots of you at both!

💛 WE DID IT! 🧸🌈

A huge THANK YOU to everyone who has supported us, followed along and donated. It honestly means so much! 🥰

We walked over 17 miles and 45,000 steps carrying our very special bear passengers… and we definitely felt every single one of them! 😂

We finished with sore knees, hips and backs, plus some very blistered feet, but somehow we kept smiling and going right to the end. 💪🏼💛

The weather wasn’t exactly on our side either! 🌧️ We got VERY wet, and unfortunately our bears soaked up the rain like giant furry sponges, which meant they became considerably heavier as the day went on! 😂

A special thank you to Moss & Moor who very kindly let us leave our biggest, completely waterlogged bear with them when he had officially become too much of a dead weight to carry! 🧸💦🤣

We’re raising money for Sue Ryder Manorlands Hospice and for the school to help provide some new outdoor equipment, so if you’d like to make a donation, we would be incredibly grateful. Every single donation, no matter how big or small, makes a difference. 💛

We lost signal just after Bolton Abbey, so couldn’t update, but we made it! After 17 miles, we finally made it to Burnsall! 🥾🙌

🥾🐻 Tomorrow’s the day! 🐻🥾
Tomorrow the reception team are setting off from Burley Oaks Primary School and walking to Burnsall, with our giant teddy bears in tow! 😂
We’re raising money for two causes that are really important to us. Half of everything we raise will go to Sue Ryder Manorlands Hospice, supporting the incredible work they do for local families, and the other half will go towards enhancing the outdoor learning environment at Burley Oaks, helping us create the best possible environment for our Reception children as they begin their school journey. 💙
We’re really hoping to meet lots of people along the way, so if you see us, please come and say hello! 🐻🥾 We’d absolutely love to have some support along the route, even a little wave or shout of encouragement would make our day!
We were also so pleased to have our challenge featured in the Ilkley Gazette, so I’m sharing the article below if you’d like to read a little more about why we’re doing it and where the money will go. ❤️

A screening of the National Emergency Briefing will be hosted at:
-Burley Oaks School
-6-8pm
- 17 September 2026.
This screening is free AND to support parents to attend, Inspiration Tree are providing a workshop (also free to book) alongside it for kids aged 4-11 (spaces are limited).

Open to the whole community, not just Burley Oaks families.

Message from the organisers: “After all the heatwaves and the wildfires this summer there couldn't be a more important time to face into the climate and nature crisis collectively for the sake of all our kids. Whilst a stark reality check, the film is hopeful and motivating. ‘Ordinary’ parents strongly encouraged to attend, no climate background needed!”
