Buckley Jubilee: 170 Years in Numbers

As part of our celebrations marking 170 years of the Buckley Jubilee, pupils across the school have been exploring Buckley’s history through a range of maths based activities.

Dosbarth Hebog investigated how Buckley’s population has changed since the first Jubilee, looking for trends and the reasons behind them.

Dosbarth Malwen and Broga compared the cost of a traditional Buckley Jubilee tea 170 years ago with the cost today, learning about pre-decimal currency and converting it into today's money.

Dosbarth Gwdihw investigated different ways to make the number 170, including using calculators to solve number challenges.

Meanwhile, pupils in Dosbarth Pili Pala, Llygoden and Gwenyn got creative by making the number 170 with their bodies.

It has been wonderful to see pupils celebrating Buckley’s rich heritage while applying their mathematical skills in different and engaging ways.

SUMMER FAIR TOTAL= £2000!! Huge thanks to the magnificent PTA who made it all happen and our wonderful goalie who has secured match funding for us. Thanks to staff who helped and the band from Theatr Clwyd who delighted us with their musical talents.

Our last Cafe of the academic year will be hosted by Dosbarth LLygoden with the support of the School Council. We hope to see our school community coming to enjoy some refreshments with our children.

Mr Maguire has kindly built us a beautiful mud kitchen for our outdoor area. Thank you!! the children are delighted with this new addition and have been enjoying cooking up treats with the pots, pans and oven.

THANK YOU to Charlotte Harvey for the kind donation of basketballs - all we need now is some cooler weather to enjoy them. These extra basketballs will make a huge difference to the children who love working on their passing and shooting skills at break times.

What a fantastic day our Nursery, Reception and Year 1 learners have enjoyed at Forest School today! 🌿💧

Our theme was Water, and the children took ownership of their learning by deciding to explore the mud kitchen, where they created their very own forest cuisine and refreshing "smoothies" to help keep cool in the sunshine. 🍃🥣
We used our creativity and mathematical skills by designing and making "monster biscuits" - carefully counting ingredients and decorations, exploring different shapes, and challenged themselves by investigating concepts such as doubling and halving.

One of the highlights of the session was our water-based snack challenge! 🍎💦 The children worked collaboratively to bob for apples, demonstrating excellent problem-solving, perseverance and teamwork as they adapted their strategies when the water level was too high or too low.

To finish off a wonderful afternoon of exploration and discovery, we all enjoyed a well-deserved ice lolly, helping us stay cool, hydrated and ready for more adventures! ☀️🍦Da iawn, everyone!

Weather update for parents......☀️⛱🌤☀️
With warmer weather expected this week all children can come to school in their PE kits if they wish. Hopefully this will be cooler and more comfortable.
Please make sure your child comes to school with sun cream applied, a hat and water.
