✨ Hi everyone, I’m Abbie! ✨

I’m a qualified primary school teacher and former SENCo with over 8 years of classroom experience.

✨ Why can’t we just sound out ALL words? 🤯
Some words just break the rules… they’re called tricky words! 🧠❌🔤

Words like the, said, what, I, he don’t play fair with phonics – that’s why we need to remember them by sight. 👀💬

📚 Learning tricky words helps build confidence and fluency in reading!

“Why can’t I understand my child’s writing?” 🤔✏️
It might look like a jumble of letters to us—but to them, it’s a HUGE leap in learning!

When kids start writing, they often spell phonetically—writing the sounds they hear. It’s not incorrect… it’s exactly what we want them to do!

✅ Spelling “kat” instead of “cat”? That’s progress.
✅ Writing “frend” for “friend”? That’s phonics in action.
✨ The goal right now isn’t perfect spelling—it’s building confidence and sound-letter awareness.

“How can I engage a reluctant reader?!” 🤔📚
Spoiler: You don’t need fancy resources – just a little creativity & FUN! 🎉💡

Here are my top tips to get kids loving reading:
🧱 Use LEGO, post-its & everyday stuff to build words (this one was “ar”)
🎨 Add reading to colouring sheets with labels
🚪 Word = entry! Stick them on the fridge, cupboard, or door
✉️ Hide challenges in envelopes – kids LOVE a mystery!
🎬 Use their faves – Frozen, Toy Story, animals, even wrestling!
🎁 Wrap up surprises – can they read, guess, or write a caption?
🔘 Use sound buttons to spit the different sounds
🖼️ Match words to pictures
🏏 Read a word, get a reward (like hit a ball!)

Reading doesn’t always look like books 📖 – it can be active, silly, exciting & personal ✨💥
Let’s turn “I don’t like reading” into “Can we do more?!” 🥹💬
